Was your son born in Thailand?

See section 12 bis(3) of the Nationality Act B.E. 2508 as amended by the Nationality Act No. 4 B.E. 2551 (2008)

From reading the nationality act it appears the anwer is that it is not a matter of just applying for it like it would be if his birth mother was Thai.

You will need to get annual extensionns for him and then after 3 years of extensions your wife could apply for permanent residency for him. After that then it would be possible to appy for citizenship when he has a total of 5 years in the country.

The extensions should be easy to get for him at immigration.

If he has been on annual extensions of stay for more than 3 years he can apply for permanent residency. And then when he has that apply for citizenship.

Once the application is accepted for residnecy it can take as much as 2 years before approval is given.
