Foreigners Required To Register At Local Police Station

Never heard of this here in Krabi, asked father in law who is a cop and he doesn't know either.

Never heard of this in Sakon Nakhon either. I always put my home address on the Immigration form as I'm coming and going every month. My wife's brother who is a Policeman said it's for long stay foreigners checking to see if they are still at the same address.It's useful if they need to contact you. Also if your Embassy needs to contact you as well.

They came today. They come once a year. They have their own form. Nothing to do with immigration except that they always come a week or two after that I have renewed my permit to stay. Does immigration ask the local police to check out my address ?

I live in northern Buriram 200 km away from my immigration office.

As for the ink. Spit on your fingers and rub it off with some tissue paper.

This is regular ink pad ink. I have already used soap and water.

Maybe scrubbing it a bunch?

Now, I hear in the grapevine that implantable/injectable ID-chips including GPS will be ordered soon.

Not enough for the entire population, just for all the farang.

Also mumbled is that the 90-day reporting must be done in person after the planting.

For calibration, you know.

Mind, the implant spot will be a very private spot.

When coming over for your 90-day reporting, it will be showtime!

Never been asked about this in Nongkhai Province. I report every 90 days at Imm Pol. Province police checked my house for burglars and T police was here for problems with neighbours about dogs but no one asked about registration. Maybe some local guys trying to get some money out of your pocket....

My wife got a call ths morning from the local police requesting I come in for a visit. I asked her why of course but no explanation was given to her.

Arrived at the police station but the boss was not there yet.and was told that it was not a problem.

The 2nd in command showed up and explained that I needed to register. It was apparent that they were not sure what was needed. but 2 forms were filled out and finger prints were taken for one form and prints of fingers grouped together for the other. Info from passport and extension of stay, type of visa and etc was written on both forms. Plus one photo because I only had one with me.

Before finishing everything the chief arrived. He speaks good English so that helped a bit.

He informed me his boss in Ubon had given a directive to him that all foreigners need to be registered and to ask them to register. I asked if it was for all of Thailand and he said yes.

He also had them make copies of my passport photo and extension pages.

So if you get a visit from the local police and are asked to go in for a visit it might be for this.

Can anybody tell me how to get the ink off hands?

In the states we use a waterless cleaner (kind mechanics use to get oil/grease off), alcohol based cleaners or grit soap like Lava.....or wait and it will wash off after a couple days....

Most foreigners stay in hotels/apartments and the landlords should register them.

Not sure if reporting your address to immigration nullifies or complies this law or not.

Would Bangkok police try this on an individual basis? The workload would be huge. Better just rely on landlords and the existing system and if a farang turns up complaining about anything and they aren't 'registered' - out comes the tea-caddy

Best way to get the ink off your fingers is Lao Kao, it´s about the same we use in Europe to clean greasy windows.

We have a thing in the west called an ankle bracelet it is fitted to convicted criminals who are sentenced to home detention. A way of keeping track of thier movements. I suggest that all tourists entering Thailand be fitted with one of these on arrival at immigration. Would streamline the process and avoid long lines at police stations and police can go about thier business of detecting and preventing offences.

These bracelets can be compulsory and rented to the tourists during thier stay providing further revenue for thailand.

Just back from few refreshing days in Gods fertile Philippines, above the immigration boots is written 'VISITORS' while above Thai immigration boots there's written 'FOREIGNERS'

Feel the subtle difference ?

This one seems to be popping up every so often, almost always out in the boonies.

Not sure if you live in the city or outside.

I'm of the impression that this task is solely for the immigration police, unless you have no immigration close by. Falls I would think under the same law requiring you to report every movement throughout Thailand the moment you stay more then 24 hours away from your registered abode.

I reckon we'd end up with a bit of a queue at Pattaya police station if they do this over here

Personally, I am getting sick and tired of jumping through all the hoops Thailand seems to be erecting for foreigners over the last couple of years. I employ several Thais, treat and pay them well, as well as help support my Thai GF's family. My business has been thriving in despite the state of the Thai economy and I have Thai VAT receipts to prove it. I have never run afoul of the laws of Thailand. The heck with it, I'm thinking of setting up shop in Hong Kong. If the Thai government doesn't want me here, adios Porndick...

I think this topic is getting a little silly.

I posted this topic as a heads up so that if somebody was asked to report to the police station they would have some idea what it could be about.

It did not bother me in the least to do what they wanted. And I think they had all legal rights to do so.

I have been in other countries where the requirements were even more stringent than here.

For the most part all the rerporting requirements here are not enforced.

It's not clear what this is regarding. Is this related to 90 days stay? Some posters relate it to the law requiring foreigners to register their address which is covered in the 90 day reporting, others say its not related to immigration....

Is related to the one-yr visa? marriage visas have always required some kind of check even in Bangkok....

Retirement visas and other one year visas often require some type of check especially in the initial year, such as money in bank account and income....

However, on a non-b or tourist visa I've never known this other than the 90 day reporting which applies to the former.

And what if using triple entry visa (good for 60+30+60+30+60+30 days..)as a tourist who fly always back to home country for another Triple entry visa....?????

Secondly thought: strange if so needed too , whee have registered address witch normally denied by immigration needed for bike or car or THAI drivers license , because being a tourist only....????

Technically i am never 90 days in country, others say yes you are 90 days in Thailand as you come back same day from Visa-run Cambodia .....ofcours T.I.T.

You register your address every time you enter the country when you put it on your TM6 arrival card.

You don't stay in the country more than 90 days because you do leave the country enen if it's for just for short period of time. You have a departure stamp in passport so you have left the country.

I regret they do not need mine , because in that case i could ask(read :tea money ) a copy of my statement to use for registration for bike ,car , license.

On the other side i have a international drivers license , value for 3 months only in Thailand if i am correct(?) , but because of the leaving the country every 3 months , it renew the value automatically i claim

I had a visit a couple of days ago from a young Policeman who informed (T/wife) every ferang in/or around Surin will be checked up on. I provided him with fingerprints and a photo after the 2 page Thai form was completed by him.

The blue ink has gone now and I hope that doesn't mean I will be deported

Thanks for your report.

Sounds about the same as my experience and confirms what the police chief told me. It is for all of Thailand not just Ubon.

You don't have to keep the ink.

I had this happen to me about 3 years ago. New chief in town, did as thety asked for a couple of times then stopped no problems. I figured that if they came after me I would plead bad memory. The cops just got bored and they have more to do with there time. It comes from forieners who work without permits mostly xxxxx.
