I just left Thailand and got held up in Phuket immigration by a nosy officer. I had been in Thailand about 14 months on a multiple Non-O with four quick exits and returns.

After some innocent but unusual questions (where are you staying? why did you leave Thailand four times? when will you come back?) I got a usual exit stamp.

When I looked at the stamp later I realized he put an infinity symbol, a lying eight, in the corner of the stamp. Anyone else got this or knows what it means?

:D ...Immigration officers are nosy the world over, why single out this guy ??

My guess is the infinity mark may be code to other nosy immigration officers to scrutinise your passport and stamps a lot closer... :D .....you never know the next time you come into Thailand, the rubber glove may be waiting for you... :)

I've not heard of that before; is it possible to scan a copy of it (black out the other particulars) and post it?

Doesn't look like a signature. The stamp says "Signature:_________" at the bottom but they are rarely signed. He also wrote the flight no# on the stamp, which is another first.

Because I was leaving. This is the first time anyone has bothered to spend more than two seconds putting an exit stamp in the passport.

Yes, that's what I'm afraid of. I'm allergic to latex :D

I just looked back through my old and new passports. The majority of the stamps had a signature but not always on the line in fact very few were on the line. Most just look like a scrbble.

I think that it is nothing more than his signature.

Edit: You got your post in while I was doing this one. I am not sure what it looks like but an alien spaceship comes to mind.

I still think it's his signature.

Thanks for posting that. I think it's just a signature. My passport has a big assortment of them and they invariably are just a scribbled, single mark or initial... so not surprising it could be interpreted as an infinity symbol.

It also seems, given its easily-overlooked and innocuous appearance on a departure stamp, that it be would also be an ineffective method of notifying any future official of a problem.

It think you can expect to remain latex-free... :)

Definite...its just a signature or initial, so looks like you will not have to bend for a friend.. :)

Signed with an X. It is an X with a circle (oval) around it. People who do not know how to write sign with an X :) and this appears to be this officer’s signature.
