June 4, 200916 yr A relative of my wife phoned her yesterday saying her next door neighbour has died of a mystery illness. He came home from swimming vomiting, complaining of feeling cold and feverish. In the night he had the runs and had blood coming out of his mouth and nose. His wife took him to hospital immediately and he died there. Could this be swine fever related I asked myself and remarked to her when being told. If it was then locals need to be made aware of it. Apologies if this is covered elsewhere as I haven,t found anything on the forum, nor in the news media. The relative is scared to death and hasn,t slept in the night as she is really worried about it. May you RIP whoever you are. Respectfully marshbags

June 4, 200916 yr Author Do you need me to adjust that date cause the 7th June is this coming sunday Also I will move this to the Samui section. Apologies for this Boo and thanks, it should read the 2cnd. of June. Cannot think why I put the 7th in the heading, old age probably taking a grip of the old grey matter. Just to add the niece was really upset and stressed as her boyfriend was away. Nothing further to report at this time. marshbags
June 4, 200916 yr So let me get this straight, a Bloke dies ( RIP ) of an illness of some kind & next thing, we're hoping the Authorities are not sweeping the Swine Flu Epidemic under the Carpet like they're doing on Phi Phi ?? Aaaaaaannnnnnnnnndddddddddd Relax...
June 4, 200916 yr I don't think Swine flu is characterized by vomiting. nor is the far more prevalent and widespread Chikungunya, which has now affected more than 20,000 people in Thailand.

All italians that got the swine flu (influenza type A) has been cured at home with 2 aspirine apart one case of hospitalizazion for two days. They were all returning from California or mexico and the swine flu is less strong than the australian flu that hit last winter, a couple of hundred dead I assume as all the last decade of winter flu.

June 5, 200916 yr The situation referred to regarding Phi Phi is most likely not the swine flu but a case of tourist(s) vomiting and dying in their bungalow a few weeks ago.
June 5, 200916 yr Author I don't think Swine flu is characterized by vomiting. nor is the far more prevalent and widespread Chikungunya, which has now affected more than 20,000 people in Thailand. Taken from ref url :- http://www.hpa.org.uk/webw/HPAweb&HPAw...C/1240732817824 What are the symptoms of swine influenza? The symptoms of swine influenza in people are similar to the symptoms of regular human seasonal influenza infection and include fever, fatigue, lack of appetite, coughing and sore throat. Some people with swine flu have also reported vomiting and diarrhoea. Unquote These are some of the symptoms I refer to in my post. I also added blood coming out his nose and mouth of course and who is to say this cannot be a cause of excessive vomiting. If anyone wishes to google swine flu symptoms, all the sites I looked at back my initial thoughts up as to what one of the causes might be. The fact that it is confirmed that cases have been found in Thailand, plus how easy it can be passed on too others could easily suggest this. IMHO as always I am not into scare mongering and try to post genuine reports at all times. Giving a heads up on this tragic case is not under the heading of scare mongering, just one of possible awareness and sensible caution. marshbags
June 5, 200916 yr Is death contagious?Sod this; I'm out of here. no, we are all already infected with it!
June 5, 200916 yr I think its just that given all the other things that can kill you here and that are characterized by severe vomiting (I've met people who have had dysentery, add in any kind of drugs and alcohol issues as well) it just seems that swine flu would be towards the bottom of any list.

Any more info please such as what the actual diagnosis was and where he is thought to have contracted same (if relevant)? We go swimming with our daughter so want to rule that and any potential sites out (acute Leptospirosis or maybe Weil's disease?).

I am not a doctor so i won't give my opinum of what it was but normally syptoms of illness can be found in many other sickness. Maybe he was sick before and did not know. there again i know nothing so i am just guessing. put it this way hope it was not swine fever

Some people with swine flu have also reported vomiting and diarrhoea."those are the symptoms of any fever Exactly, and in any person with good health easily cured with aspirin or ibuprophen, take 2 at every meal. You could also take 200$ pills made for the swine flue (not sure about the name, Tamiflu?), or a bunch of antibiothics that last time i'got a fever nearly killed me....
