Thirty suspected swine flu cases in Phuket

PHUKET: Four tourists in Phuket are suspected of being infected with swine flu and are currently in quarantine in Phuket hospitals.

According to the Phuket Provincial Public Health Office, three of the quarantined tourists are believed to be Pakistani nationals. They were immediately quarantined at Patong Hospital after thermo scanners showed they were suffering from high fevers.

The fourth tourist is a Thai national who has been quarantined at a "private hospital", according to a report on Thai-language news website Manager Online.

Blood samples from all four have been sent to the Regional Medical Sciences Center in Surat Thani for testing.

Blood samples from 26 Patong nightclub employees were also sent for testing at the center. They reported coughing and flu symptoms after coming into contact with a Hong Kong tourist who came down with swine flu during a stay in Patong. For our previous report, click here.

That man is currently being treated in Princess Margaret Hospital in Hong Kong. He stayed in Patong from June 4 to June 8.

On June 7, he began to show flu symptoms and was diagnosed with swine flu upon his return to Hong Kong.

Phuket Public Health Office (PPHO) Director Dr Pongsawas Ratanasang told Manager that the PPHO has been in communication with the stricken Hong Kong man via the internet.

Dr Pongsawas said the man reported visiting "many countries" before his stay in Phuket.

The PPHO have yet to identify which country the man was infected in.

While in Patong he stayed at one hotel and visited three or four nightclubs, the report quoted Dr Pongsawas as saying.

PPHO officials have examined employees of these establishments to determine if any were infected after coming into contact with the man.

Of 100 people examined, 26 showed flu symptoms. They are now receiving treatment and their blood samples have been sent to the Regional Medical Sciences Center in Surat Thani for testing.

Dr Phadungkiat Uthoksaynee of the PPHO said the results should be released "within one to three days' time". spacer.gif– Dan Waites & Khunakorn Terdkiatkhachorn

As in Patatya any venue here is not named although at this stage it does not matter as the virus is out of the box & spreading rapidly. Unless you want to lock yourself indoors for the duration & have no contact with the outside world then everyone is at risk. Yesterday I was in Central & sat down to enjoy some ice cream in one of the shops where it was obvious one of the ice cream girls was suffering from a cold or flu as was the only other customer.

Years ago I was an offshore oil rig in Australia where over a period of time 30 to 50% of the crew came down with a virus which put them on their backs for 24 hours. Another time in the Gulf of Thailand at least 50% of those on board came down with severe food poisoning & I aways remember this particular comment from a Scottish chap, "at times I thought I was going to die & at times I wished I did die". In both cases I was lucky & was not infected but the reality is that most of us will be exposed at some stage & how mild or serious or even nothing happening, will depend on the individual & the circumstances at the time.

Who cares? This swine flu is one of the least harmful, and least dangerous flus that the world has seen in the last 100 years. So far

only a tiny fraction of people have been infected, and have died, as happens with the "normal" flus that are more common. There

is absolutely nothing to fear. This flu will subside within a couple more months, and alot of embarrassed people will be running around

wondering why they got so excited about nothing.

Could not agree more! As you can see from the enclosed this its not the first time Swine Flu has reared it's ugly head. It arrived with all the same fears and threats back in 1976 the doctors, scientists at the time dismissed it as a hoax and it just went away like so may other killer virus's. The real fear is that the cure ie the vaccine is more dangerous than the Swine Flu itself see below. My belief is its just another Hoax.

Who Owns the Rights on Tamiflu: Rumsfeld To Profit From Bird Flu Hoax

by Michel Chossudovsky

We bring to the attention of Global Research readers this important commentary by Dr.Joseph Mercola.

The fundamental issue is who owns the intellectual property rights over Tamiflu. The media reports suggest that the Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche will make billions.

While the drug is produced by Roche, it was developed by Gilead Sciences Inc.which owns the intellectual property rights. Gilead, which has maintained a low profile, has outsourced the production to Roche.

Donald Rumsfeld was appointed Chairman of Gilead Sciences, Inc. in 1997, a position which he held in the years prior to becoming Secretary of Defense.in the Bush adminstration. Rumsfeld had been on the Board of Directors from the establishment of Gilead in 1987.

As confirmed in a company press statement in 1997, Donald H. Rumsfeld assumed the position of Chairman, of GILEAD: :

"Gilead is fortunate to have had Don Rumsfeld as a stalwart board member since the company's earliest days, and we are very pleased that he has accepted the Chairmanship," Dr. Riordan said. "He has played an important role in helping to build and steer the company. His broad experience in leadership positions in both industry and government will serve us well as Gilead continues to build its commercial presence."

According to company statement: Gilead Science Inc "has been active in the development of inhibitors for the potential treatment and prevention of viral influenza and protease inhibitors for the potential treatment of HIV"

"The Company's research and development efforts encompass three interrelated programs: small molecule antivirals, cardiovascular therapeutics and genetic code blockers for cancer and other diseases. Gilead's expertise in each of these areas has also resulted in the discovery and development of non-nucleotide product candidates, including neuraminidase inhibitors for the potential treatment and prevention of viral influenza and protease inhibitors for the potential treatment of HIV"

Also find below an article published in the SF Chronicle, which points to the relationship between GILEAD and Roche in relation to the Rights over Tami Flu.

Who Owns the rights on Tamiflu

Finally, the pieces of the puzzle start to add up. Not long ago, President Bush sought to instill panic in this country by telling us a minimum of 200,000 people will die from the avian flu pandemic, but it could be as bad as 2 million deaths in this country alone.

This hoax is then used to justify the immediate purchase of 80 million doses of Tamiflu, a worthless drug that in no way shape or form treats the avian flu, but only decreases the amount of days one is sick and can actually contribute to the virus having more lethal mutations.

So the U.S. placed an order for 20 million doses of this worthless drug at a price of $100 per dose. That comes to a staggering $2 billion.

We are being told that Roche manufactures Tamiflu and, in a recent New York Times article, they were battling whether or not they would allow generic drug companies to help increase their production.

But if you dig further you will find that a drug was actually developed by a company called Gilead that 10 years ago gave Roche the exclusive rights to market and sell Tamiflu.

Ahh, The Plot Thickens...

If you read the link below from Gilead, you'll discover Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was made the chairman of Gilead in 1997.

Since Rumsfeld holds major portions of stock in Gilead, he will handsomely profit from the scare tactics of the government that is being used to justify the purchase of $2 billion of Tamiflu.

TEXT OF 1997 PRESS RELEASE BY GILEAD SCIENCE INC

Donald H. Rumsfeld Named Chairman of Gilead Sciences

Foster City, CA, January 3, 1997 - Gilead Sciences Inc. (Nasdaq: GILD) today announced that board member Donald H. Rumsfeld will assume the position of Chairman, effective immediately. Biotech firm wants to regain control of avian flu drug

Gilead says deal with Roche Inc. threatens Tamiflu's production

Sabin Russell, Chronicle Medical Writer

Friday, June 24, 2005

Citing "ongoing neglect of the product," a Bay Area biotech company is attempting to reclaim control of Tamiflu, an antiviral drug it sold to Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche Inc. that has since emerged as the world's only practical weapon against a potential pandemic of avian flu.

The Foster City-based Gilead Sciences, best known for its AIDS drug Viread, notified Roche on Thursday that it was terminating the 1996 agreement that gave the Swiss company exclusive rights to make and sell Tamiflu.

Gilead executives disclosed that they have been peppering Roche with complaints about its marketing of Tamiflu for five years, and that manufacturing glitches have been responsible for earlier shortages of a drug now deemed vitally important to public health.

Formerly a lackluster seller in the market for drugs to treat influenza, Tamiflu has become a valuable commodity since December 2003, when scientists became alarmed that a new flu strain that primarily killed chickens in Southeast Asia was starting to kill people who lived in close proximity to the birds.

In April, Roche reported its first quarter sales of Tamiflu quadrupled to $330 million.

Al Gore's Inconvenient Loot

Former Vice President Al Gore has built a Green money-making machine capable of eventually generating billions of dollars for investors, including himself, but he set it up so that the average Joe can't afford to play on Gore's terms. And the US portion is headed up by a former Gore staffer and fund raiser who previously ran afoul of both the FEC and the DOJ, before Janet Reno jumped in and shut down an investigation during the Clinton years.

As Bill Hobbs first pointed out, Gore supposedly pays for his extra-large carbon footprint through Generation Investment Management (GIM) - and if you're looking to go green, and have your wallet go along with Gore, think again - average people are too insignificant to play - verifiable from this pdf.

Generation is based in London, with its U.S. offices in Washington, DC. The firm will manage the assets of institutional investors such as pension funds, foundations and endowments, as well as those of select high net worth individuals.* Generation expects to make extensive use of long-term performance based fees. Generation will begin its investment management business in early 2005.

* like Al Gore

Gore's company, GIM was specifically established to take financial advantage of new technologies and solutions related to combating Global Warming. The Global Warming crowd has told us that just recently new science emerged confirming the alleged fact that Global Warming is man made. So, ask yourself, why is it that Gore set up his Green money machine three years ago back in 2004? Is it possible Gore knew what the science would say before it was out? And even if not, can an individual who stands to make millions from Global Warming really be trusted as an honest broker on that topic? Talk about giving the fox the keys to the hen penthouse.

Even if Global Warming did exist, in principle, what's the difference between war profiteering and this? One could justifiably argue that Gore is taking advantage of, in his opinion, a catastrophic situation to clean up - and I don't mean the environment.

Here's a list indicating what it takes to make money along with Al. Funds associated with these companies have placed millions of dollars under Al Gore's control. And, as you'll see below, Gore's selection for the US President of GIM might raise a few eyebrows as well.

AFLAC INC - AQUANTIVE INC - AUTODESK INC - BECTON DICKINSON & CO BLACKBAUD INC - GENERAL ELECTRIC CO - GREENHILL & CO INC - JOHNSON CTLS INC - LABORATORY CORP AMER HLDGS - METABOLIX INC - NORTHERN TR CORP - NUVEEN INVTS INC -STAPLES INC - SYSCO CORP - TECHNE CORP - UBS AG - VCA ANTECH INC - WATERS CORP - WHOLE FOODS MKT INC

According to their own documents, GIM intends to invest in, or buy companies poised to cash in on Global Warming concerns. If we borrow John Edward's so-called two Americas concept for a second, this all means higher prices and taxes with more regulation and an altered standard of living for people like you and me, while Al Gore sits ensconced in his other America reaping profits from each new government mandate for us, business and even government itself. It's win win, alright, but mostly for Al.

To add insult to injury, Gore chose Peter S. Knight, an old friend and colleague some are sure to recall, as the US President of GIM.

Peter S. Knight, formerly Managing Director Met West Financial, lawyer, Chief of Staff for Senator Al Gore (D-TN) from 1977-1989, and Campaign Manager for President Clinton's successful re-election in 1996, is President of Generation U.S.

This would be him: Reno Rejects Inquiry Into a Clinton Aide

Atty Gen Janet Reno decides against any further investigation of Peter Knight, Pres Clinton's 1996 campaign manager in connection with office building development in nation's capital; such an investigation could have led to naming independent counsel to look further into activities of Knight, who is also former top assistant to Vice Pres Al Gore.

Yes, thanks to Janet Reno, no one ever found out how $20,000 in stock turned up in an account for Knight's then 13 year old child.

Dispute over Democratic Party campaign-financing shifts to Zachary Knight, 13-year-old son of Peter S Knight, Clinton-Gore campaign chairman in 1996, who was given $20,000 in stock by William Haney 3d, chairman of Molten Metal Technology Inc; Republicans believe gift, which came after father was named chairman of campaign, was really payment to Knight, who had worked as $7,000-per-month lobbyist for company; Knight denies involvement in any impropriety; photo

If Gore's motivation in pushing Global Warming is so altruistic, was it really necessarily for the already wealthy Gore to establish a multi-million dollar corporation in England to cash in? And given the history of Gore and Knight, are these people we should trust to drive a re-vamping of the world economy at the same time they're lining their pockets because of our much smaller carbon footprints?

If Al Gore is successful with this latest scheme, Gore and his cronies are going to be much more $green$ than most of the earth. And the only green in this for you and me is the kind that accompanies envy as Gore trucks around on private jets putting dollars to offset his extravagance into a cash machine generating profits on the backs of the middle class with misrepresented science that doesn't deserve to be called science at all.

Mr. Gore starts out, ironically enough, asserting the importance of peer-reviewed science. I call this ironic because the misrepresentation that follows (a) hasn’t been peer reviewed, and (:) the peer-reviewed literature contradicts the misrepresentation.

From the Center For Public Integrity: one of the issues involving both Knight and carbon friendly Al was the installation of a hot tub and steam shower in the Master Bedroom of the VP's house. How Green is that?

Here's what the Center found about some of the most generous contributors to the foundation: Peter S. Knight...

Peter S. Knight, Gore's former chief of staff, managed Gore's first bid for the presidency in 1988. In 1989, he began lobbying for the firm Wunder, Diefendorfer, Cannon and Thelan. Given his closeness to Gore and the rest of the Clinton administration, corporations now pay Knight upward of $10,000 a month to wield his influence with Gore. With the help of his new clients, Knight soon cemented a new role for himself as Gore's "chief of fund raising."

Since 1996, Knight's various lobbying and fund-raising activity has been the subject of a Federal Election Commission investigation, a Justice Department inquiry and two House Commerce Committee probes.

Gore chose Knight to act as chairman of the foundation during Gore's first vice presidential term. Three of Knight's clients - millionaire publishing magnate Vance Opperman, Bell Atlantic and Fluor Corporation — showered the foundation with $10,000 each.

Knight also solicited $10,000 contributions from foundations run by Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO), Coca-Cola Company, MCI Communications (now MCI WorldCom, Inc.), Time Warner Inc. and Microsoft Corporation (Chairman Bill Gates also contributed a $30,000 glass sculpture). Under Gore's supervision, the foundation pledged to take corporate money only through their foundations, not from corporations directly. The $10,000 paid by the Coca-Cola Company, however, came out of the corporate account.

Bayer Documents: AIDS Tainted Blood Killed Thousands of Hemophiliacs

Thu, 22 May 2003

An examination of internal Bayer company documents by The New York Times reveals that the company was engaged in unsavory, probably criminal marketing practices. The documents reveal that Bayer continued to sell contaminated blood plasma causing thousands of hemophiliac patients to be infected with AIDS. The company continued to sell the contaminated blood in Asia for over a year when it had already introduced a safer, heated blood plasma version in the US and Europe in February 1984.

The documents examined by the Times provide evidence of unrestrained corrupt practices by a pharmaceutical industry giant. According to The Times, records suggest that the reason for continuing to sell an AIDS infected blood product, was to get rid of inventory and "the company hoped to preserve the profit margin from 'several large fixed-price contracts.'"

This previously uninvestigated case demonstrates how this industry's lies and crimes are shielded by officials at the Food and Drug Administration. The Times reports that in 1985 FDA's Dr. Harry Meyer willingly helped Bayer cover up "one of the worst drug-related medical disasters in history." Meyer suggested that the issue should be "quietly solved without alerting the Congress, the medical community and the public." This culture of accommodation continues to prevail at the FDA.

The case also demonstrates Bayer's racial elitism. Its lethal marketing policies disregard human lives. The mother of a 22 year old hemophiliac who was killed by Bayer's tainted product in Hong Kong put it this way: "they did not care about the lives in Asia. It was racial discrimination."

The Times reports that three other American pharmaceutical companies were involved in selling tainted blood plasma after a safer version existed: Armour Pharmaceutical, Baxter International and Alpha Therapeutic.

American taxpayers have awarded unprecedented, generous financial subsidies to this industry--no other has extended patent rights as does this industry. In return they have been deceived, believing that drug company officials care about alleviating suffering and improving people's health, and that the FDA protects them from tainted products. In fact, this industry has repeatedly shown that profits matter more than human liveseven less valued are the lives in underdeveloped countries.

Currently, Bayer--through its subsidiary, Bayer CropScience--is applying pressure on the Environmental Protection Agency in an effort to lower the standards for pesticide contamination. Bayer has conducted unethical human pesticide experiments and wants the EPA to accept the data from those trials. The nature and purpose of such wholly nontherapeutic experiments violate The Nuremberg Code which was adopted in 1947 to protect human beings from potentially lethal, non-medical experiments.

2 Paths of Bayer Drug in 80's: Riskier Type Went Overseas

By WALT BOGDANICH and ERIC KOLI

A division of the pharmaceutical company Bayer sold millions of dollars of blood-clotting medicine for hemophiliacs medicine that carried a high risk of transmitting AIDS to Asia and Latin America in the mid-1980's while selling a new, safer product in the West, according to documents obtained by The New York Times.

The Bayer unit, Cutter Biological, introduced its safer medicine in late February 1984 as evidence mounted that the earlier version was infecting hemophiliacs with H.I.V. Yet for over a year, the company continued to sell the old medicine overseas, prompting a United States regulator to accuse Cutter of breaking its promise to stop selling the product. By continuing to sell the old version of the life-saving medicine, the records show, Cutter officials were trying to avoid being stuck with large stores of a product that was proving increasingly unmarketable in the United States and Europe.

Yet even after it began selling the new product, the company kept making the old medicine for several months more. A telex from Cutter to a distributor suggests one reason behind that decision, too: the company had several fixed-price contracts and believed that the old product would be cheaper to produce.

Nearly two decades later, the precise human toll of these marketing decisions is difficult, if not impossible, to document. Many patient records are now unavailable, and because an AIDS test was not developed until later in the epidemic, it is difficult to pinpoint when foreign hemophiliacs were infected with H.I.V. before Cutter began selling its safer medicine or afterward.

But in Hong Kong and Taiwan alone, more than 100 hemophiliacs got H.I.V. after using Cutter's old medicine, according to records and interviews. Many have since died. Cutter also continued to sell the older product after February 1984 in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan and Argentina, records show. The Cutter documents, which were produced in connection with lawsuits filed by American hemophiliacs, went largely unnoticed until The Times began asking about them.

"These are the most incriminating internal pharmaceutical industry documents I have ever seen," said Dr. Sidney M. Wolfe, who as director of the Public Citizen Health Research Group has been investigating the industry's practices for three decades.

Bayer officials, responding on behalf of Cutter and its president at the time, Jack Ryan, declined to be interviewed but did answer written questions. In a statement, Bayer said that Cutter had "behaved responsibly, ethically and humanely" in selling the old product overseas. Cutter had continued to sell the old medicine, the statement said, because some customers doubted the new drug's effectiveness, and because some countries were slow to approve its sale. The company also said that a shortage of plasma, used to make the medicine, had kept Cutter from manufacturing more of the new product.

"Decisions made nearly two decades ago were based on the best scientific information of the time and were consistent with the regulations in place," the statement said.

The medicine, called Factor VIII concentrate, essentially provides the missing ingredient without which hemophiliacs' blood cannot clot. By injecting themselves with it, hemophiliacs can stop bleeding or prevent bleeds from starting; some use it as many as three times a week. It has helped hemophiliacs lead normal lives.

But in the early years of the AIDS epidemic, it became a killer. The medicine was made using pools of plasma from 10,000 or more donors, and since there was still no screening test for the AIDS virus, it carried a high risk of passing along the disease; even a tiny number of H.I.V.-positive donors could contaminate an entire pool.

In the United States, AIDS was passed on to thousands of hemophiliacs, many of whom died, in one of the worst drug-related medical disasters in history. While admitting no wrongdoing, Bayer and three other companies that made the concentrate have paid hemophiliacs about $600 million to settle more than 15 years of lawsuits accusing them of making a dangerous product.

The Cutter documents a few of them have surfaced in recent years in television and newspaper reports about Cutter's marketing practices were gleaned from that litigation. But because the documents did not relate directly to the suits, most went uninvestigated.

The documents - internal memorandums, minutes of company marketing meetings and telexes to foreign distributors - reveal and chronicle Cutter's decision to keep exporting the older product after it began making the new one, which was heat-treated to kill H.I.V. The heat treatment rendered the virus "undetectable" in the product, according to a government study. (There are few available records documenting the actions and decisions of the three other American-based companies that also sold unheated concentrate after offering a heated product.)

Doctors and patients contacted overseas said they had not known of the contents of the Cutter documents. Bayer and other blood-product companies, though admitting no wrongdoing, have already made some payments to foreign hemophiliacs. It is unclear if Bayer could now face legal liability specifically for selling the older product after a safer one was available. Federal regulators helped keep the overseas sales out of the public eye, the documents indicate. In May of 1985, believing that the companies had broken a voluntary agreement to withdraw the old medicine from the market, the Food and Drug Administration's regulator of blood products, Dr. Harry M. Meyer Jr., summoned officials of the companies to a meeting and ordered them to comply. "It was unacceptable for them to ship that material overseas," he said later in legal papers.

Even so, Dr. Meyer asked that the issue be "quietly solved without alerting the Congress, the medical community and the public," according to Cutter's account of the 1985 meeting. Dr. Meyer said later that he could not recall making that statement, but another blood-product company's summary of the meeting also noted that the F.D.A. wanted the matter settled "quickly and quietly." Dr. Meyer died in 2001.

Whether Cutter was behaving ethically became an issue in internal company discussions. "Can we in good faith continue to ship nonheat-treated coagulation products to Japan?" a company task force asked in February 1985, fearing that some of its plasma donors might be H.I.V. positive. The decision, records show, was yes.

Taken together, the documents provide an inside view of Cutter's bottom-line strategizing and efforts to manage the flow of information amid growing public anxiety about the safety of its product.

When a Hong Kong distributor in late 1984 expressed an interest in the new product, the records show, Cutter asked the distributor to "use up stocks" of the old medicine before switching to its "safer, better" product. Several months later, as hemophiliacs in Hong Kong began testing positive for H.I.V., some local doctors questioned whether Cutter was dumping "AIDS tainted" medicine into less-developed countries.

Still, Cutter assured the distributor that the unheated product posed "no severe hazard" and was the "same fine product we have supplied for years." Li Wei-chun said her son, who died in 1996 at the age of 23, was one of the hemophiliacs in Hong Kong who got AIDS after using that product. "They did not care about the lives in Asia," Ms. Li said in a recent interview. "It was racial discrimination."

How It Started

Discovery That Blood Spreads the Disease

At the beginning of the epidemic, more than two decades ago, fear over what would later be known as AIDS was centered mostly among gays and intravenous drug users. But that changed on July 16, 1982, when the federal Centers for Disease Control reported that three hemophiliacs had acquired the disease. This gave epidemiologists a strong reason to believe that the disease was being spread through blood products. And that belief carried grave implications for the many thousands of hemophiliacs who routinely injected themselves with concentrate made from giant pools of donated plasma. Because an AIDS test had not yet been developed, federal health officials had no idea how many plasma donors carried the disease.

By March of 1983, the C.D.C. went so far as to warn that blood products "appear responsible for AIDS among hemophilia patients."

The unfolding story had not gone unnoticed at Cutter headquarters. Back in January, Cutter's manager of plasma procurement had acknowledged in a letter: "There is strong evidence to suggest that AIDS is passed on to other people through . . . plasma products."

With sales of concentrate beginning to slip, Cutter got more bad news in May 1983: after learning that a Cutter rival had begun to make heated concentrate, France decided to halt all imports of clotting concentrate until it could figure out what to do.

Fearing a loss of customers, Cutter conceived a marketing plan that stopped well short of full disclosure. "We want to give the impression that we are continuously improving our product without telling them we expect soon to also have a heat-treated" concentrate, an internal memo said.

Several weeks later, Cutter tried to minimize the danger hemophiliacs faced when using blood products. "AIDS has become the center of irrational response in many countries," the company said in a June 1983 letter to distributors in France and 20 other countries. "This is of particular concern to us because of unsubstantiated speculations that this syndrome may be transmitted by certain blood products."

The French decided to keep using unheated concentrate, and Cutter said it sold them more of the unheated product in August 1983. Later, two French health officials were sent to prison for continuing to use up old stocks of unheated concentrate in 1985, when a heated product was available.

Cutter finally received United States approval to sell heated concentrate on Feb. 29, 1984, the last of the four major blood product companies to do so. Though some doctors and patients held out against the heated product, a safer era had clearly begun for hemophiliacs in the United States.

Market Considerations

Bayer Says Some Wanted Old Product

For five months more, until August 1984, Cutter said it continued to make the old, unheated medicine. The records suggest that the company hoped to preserve the profit margin from "several large fixed-price contracts." But in its statements to The Times, Bayer also said that some customers still wanted the old medicine, initially believing - incorrectly, it turned out - that heating the concentrate could leave it less effective and possibly dangerous.

The new product, meanwhile, was selling briskly, leaving Cutter with a problem: "There is excess nonheated inventory," the company noted in minutes of a meeting on Nov. 15, 1984.

"They needed to get the return for what they invested," explained Michael Baum, a Los Angeles lawyer who has represented dozens of United States hemophiliacs in suits against blood-product companies. "They paid the donors. They had processed the plasma, put it into vials, kept it in warehouses - and all that expense had already been incurred." (One vial is roughly equivalent to a small dose, though more may be needed to stop severe bleeding.)

At the November meeting, the minutes show, Cutter said it planned to "review international markets again to determine if more of this product can be sold." And in the months that followed, it had some success, exporting more than 5 million units (a typical vial might contain 250 units) in the first three months of 1985, documents show.

"Argentina has been sold 300,000 units and will possibly order more, and the Far East has ordered 400,000 units," according to a March 1985 Cutter report. Two months later, the company reported that "in Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, doctors are primarily dispensing nonheated Cutter" concentrate.

By then, while there were still a small number of buyers in the United States, nearly all of the unheated concentrate was being sold abroad, available records show. All told, Cutter appears to have exported more than 100,000 vials of unheated concentrate, worth more than $4 million, after it began selling its safer product.

Gary Mull, an international product manager for Cutter at the time, said no one at the company had ordered him to sell the unheated concentrate as a way of avoiding a write-off. "If I had reason to personally believe, let alone the company" that any of the material was highly infectious, "we wouldn't have sent it out," he said.

Mr. Mull, who now works for another blood-product company, added, "I wasn't the shipping person, but I would still be the person in charge of queueing it up."

Bayer, which is based in Germany, said in its statement that an overall plasma shortage in 1985 had kept Cutter from making more heated medicine. But Cutter may actually have contributed to that shortage - by using some its limited plasma supplies to continue making the old product.

Bayer's response also emphasized that some countries were slow to approve its new product. For example, Bayer said "procedural requirements" imposed by Taiwan had delayed its "ability to apply for registration" and had led to other delays as well.

But an official at Taiwan's health department, Hsu Chien-wen, said recently that Cutter had not applied for permission to sell the new, safer medicine until July 1985, about a year and a half after it began doing so in the United States.

In one case, records show, Cutter officials even discussed trying to delay Japan's approval of heated concentrate so the company could shed stocks of the older product. Bayer said Cutter did not act on that idea.

Officials from the three other American-based companies that continued to sell unheated concentrate Armour Pharmaceutical, Baxter International and Alpha Therapeutic either declined to be interviewed or denied wrongdoing, in some cases citing the same reasons Bayer did for its decisions.

Still, what is not in dispute is that by the spring of 1985, few researchers doubted the connection between AIDS and unheated concentrate. The previous October, the federal Centers for Disease Control, using a prototype H.I.V. test, had reported that 74 percent of hemophiliacs who used unheated concentrate had tested positive for H.I.V. In the same report, the agency said a study done with Cutter had shown that heat treatment rendered the virus "undetectable."

(Bayer said no one knew "definitively" that its heat treatment killed the AIDS virus until eight months later.)

By May 1985, as the AIDS scare reached hemophiliacs in Hong Kong, Cutter's distributor there placed an urgent call to Cutter headquarters, records show. Sounding distraught, he told of an impending medical emergency.

Hemophiliacs were frightened. Children were being infected with H.I.V. Parents were hysterical. Couldn't the company send the new, safer product? Cutter replied that most of the new medicine was going to the United States and Europe, and that there was not enough left for Hong Kong, though a small amount was available for the "most vocal patients."

Dr. Chan Tai-kwong, who treated hemophiliacs at Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong, said doctors asked Cutter's distributor for the heated concentrate but could not get it; 40 percent of his patients were H.I.V.- positive, Dr. Chan said.

Dr. Patrick Yuen, who worked at another hospital, gave a similar account. "The local distributor asked us to keep using it," he said. "They said not to be afraid."

Even so, Cutter knew the market for the older medicine had all but dried up. "It appears there are no longer any markets in the Far East where we can expect to sell substantial quantities of nonheat-treated," a Cutter official wrote in May 1985. Bayer said Cutter stopped shipping unheated concentrate in July 1985.

Later, in the early 1990's, two members of a Hong Kong government commission that concluded the tragedy could not have been avoided, expressed concern when told of the internal Cutter documents. Dr. Yuen, a member of the panel, said Cutter failed to warn doctors and hemophiliacs in Hong Kong about the dangers of unheated concentrate. "It should tell the whole world, not just Europe and America," he said.

Bayer also said Cutter did fully inform foreign customers about the heated product. And Bayer said it took more than a year to get Hong Kong's approval to sell it. But Dr. Cindy Lai, assistant director of Hong Kong's health department, said that in the 1980's Cutter needed only to get an import license. "It normally took one week," she said.

The delay harmed more than just the hemophiliacs, said Mrs. Li, the mother of the young hemophiliac who died of AIDS in 1993. Infected with a terrible and still mysterious disease, hemophiliacs were often shunned by family, friends and employers.

"It was the immoral drug company that caused some families to fall apart," she said. "They blamed and tortured each other. It was better to die than to live."

The Message Gap

Many Slow to Hear of the Problems

Today, in the Internet age, vast amounts of the most up-to-the-minute medical information are available at the click of a mouse. News moved less efficiently in 1985.

In Taiwan, Dr. Shen Ming-ching, who ran the country's largest clinic for hemophiliacs, recalled in a recent interview that it was not until he traveled to the United States for a conference in July 1985 that he learned for certain that heat treatment killed H.I.V. Upon returning home, he said, he immediately insisted that Taiwan authorities stop importing the old concentrate.

For his efforts on behalf of the hemophiliacs in Taiwan, Dr. Shen said, the government gave him a certificate and "a beautiful medal." As for the hemophiliacs themselves, 44 of Dr. Shen's patients got AIDS, including a 2-year-old. He said 23 had died.

None of the Taiwan patients interviewed by The Times said they knew that Cutter had begun selling the safer medicine in the United States in early 1984.

One Taiwan patient who received Cutter's old concentrate was Lee Ching-chang. Mr. Lee said he got his first concentrate in November 1983 at age 22, and continued receiving the unheated type into 1985.

Mr. Lee said he tested positive for H.I.V. in 1986. "I am bitterly angry," he said. Mr. Lee said he was too sick to work.

Six other hemophiliacs with H.I.V. or their families spoke to The Times about despair, discrimination, job loss or in some cases thoughts of suicide. Mr. Lee was the only hemophiliac with H.I.V. willing to be photographed.

Tang <deleted>-kuo helps AIDS patients in Taiwan. "I cannot tell myself that it's just history; let's forget it," Mr. Tang said. "Nobody wants to acknowledge fault."

African Women are Being Sterilized Without Their Consenttweet

By Amy Dempsey, RH Reality Check

June 23, 2009 - 1:34pm

Published under:

On a continent where AIDS and HIV are common, infected women who seek medical services are being sterilized against their will. The Guardian reported Monday that the International Community of Women Living with HIV/Aids (ICW) is going to sue the Namibian government for at least 15 cases of coerced sterilization. There have also been reports of this happening in the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa and Zambia.

According to the article, the ICW has recorded cases in which women who are minutes away from giving birth are asked to sign consent forms to inhibit them from having more children. What the women do not know is just what they are agreeing to when they sign the form.

Jennifer Gatsi-Mallet, ICW's coordinator, told the Guardian,

"They were in pain, they were told to sign, they didn't know what it was. They thought that it was part of their HIV treatment. None of them knew what sterilization was, including those from urban areas, because it was never explained to them."

The article also said:

"After six weeks they went to the family planning center for birth control pills and were told that it's not necessary: they're sterile. Most of them were very upset. When they went back to the hospital and asked, 'Why did you do this to us?' the answer was: 'You've got HIV'."

Being coerced into sterilization has many negative effects for women. Many infertile women are shunned by their husbands and communities, and those who have not been sterilized, forgo medical treatments at hospitals for fear they will be sterilized.

"In African culture, if you are not able to have children, you are ostracised. It's worse than having HIV," Gatsi-Mallet said.

According to the Guardian,

"African women aged between 20 and 34 have a higher prevalence of HIV than any other social group; in South Africa one in three is infected.

On average an HIV-positive mother has a one in four risk of transmitting the virus to her child. With the latest antiretroviral drugs, the probability can be cut to less than one in 50. But such medical interventions are underfunded and inaccessible to millions of women across the continent."

In the upcoming lawsuit, the ICW will accuse the Namibian government of encouraging doctors to sterilize HIV positive women to stop the virus from spreading. The ICW requested to see the government's official guidelines regarding sterilizations, but the request was denied.

One of the highlighted cases against the Namibian government is that of Hilma Nendongo, 30, who is HIV positive. A few weeks after her son was born, she was asked by a nurse, "Oh, did they tell you that you had been sterilised?" Nendongo remembered signing forms before entering an operating room for a cesarean section.

Subject: Swine Flu

Firstly note the article below from todays Irish Independent and consider that one of the manufacturers of the proposed vaccine is Baxter Pharmaceuticals. Then read medical reports questioning Swine Flu and the vaccine. Then note the Criminal Charges recently filed against BaxterPharmaceuticalsthen decide if you think it is safe to take the vaccine.

Swine flu jab for all after virus toll alert

Saturday July 04 2009

EVERYONE in the country is shortly to be offered a free swine flu vaccination as health authorities brace themselves for a worst-case scenario of up to 100,000 new cases a week.

The vaccines -- which will cost the Exchequer 88m -- will be administered either through GPs or a network of 121 swine flu clinics.

They will be set up nationwide as soon as sufficient amounts of the vaccine are available in late summer or early autumn, the Health Services Executive (HSE) confirmed last night.

The clinics will be provided in public buildings and sports halls. They will be open 12 hours a day, seven days a week, to deal with the growing pandemic.

The Department of Health has so-called "sleeping contracts" with pharmaceutical giants SmithGlaxoKline and Baxter Pharmaceuticals for the vaccine.

They will manufacture 7.7 million doses of the vaccine for Ireland. The World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the flu to be a Level 6 pandemic last month.

The vaccines are being cultivated and will be administered on a phased-in basis beginning in the late summer over a number of weeks, the HSE told the Irish Independent last night. Patients considered high risk -- such as the elderly, young children or those with underlying medical conditions or respiratory ailments -- will be vaccinated first.

They will be followed by healthcare workers and others at an elevated risk of contracting the H1N1 virus.

The move comes as the WHO confirmed that the pandemic was now out of control worldwide and could not be contained.

Health authorities in Britain fear there will be 100,000 new cases there a day by the end of July -- making it the worst outbreak in Europe.

There are more than 7,400 confirmed cases in the UK, 700 in Spain and around 300 in France.

Ireland, however, is several weeks behind the UK in terms of the rapid-fire spread of the flu and the HSE believes the incidence rate won't be as bad here due to our small population.

"The worst-case scenario is 100,000 cases a week but we're nowhere near there yet," an HSE spokeswoman said.

Chances

But the Department of Health isn't taking any chances and "the intention is to go ahead" with the vaccinations, she said.

"We've been planning this since April for any eventuality. It is an evolving situation and it's under review every day," she added.

There are 51 confirmed cases of swine flu here, including a young schoolgirl in Co Roscommon who is being treated at home with anti-viral medication after she was diagnosed with the virus earlier this week.

She, along with 28 other pupils at the Roxboro National School in Derrane, Co Roscommon, have been advised to stay away from each other for the next week to prevent the virus from incubating.

School principal Michael Cleary said none of the other students had shown symptoms of the virus."Everything is under control now, thank goodness," he said.

In the meantime, the HSE is advising people to take precautions when they are out and about and to wash hands frequently and cover their mouths if they cough or sneeze to prevent transmission of the virus.

"It's really about being conscious and cautious," a spokeswoman said.

Swine flu has symptoms which include fever, coughing, runny nose, sore throat, body aches, chills, headache and tiredness, vomiting and diarrhoea.

SWINE FLU ANOTHER MEDICALLY-MADE EPIDEMIC

"Take the profit out of the manufacture and administration of serums and vaccines and they would soon be condemned even by those who are now using them"George Starr White M D

Dr. J. Anthony Morris, former Director of a branch of FDA Virus research. Dr. Morris findings show that the flu vaccine, when inhaled by lab animals "enhanced cancerous tumors. The flu vaccine could pose a serious threat of fetal damage to women who might become pregnant. The vaccine has toxic properties, even after it is killed, which can cause fever and convulsions, especially in children. January Journal of Pediatrics carried the research of Doctors at Atlanta and Sheffield, England working together testing a purified killed influenza vaccine. They concluded that even the purified killed vaccine is too toxic (poison) to be given to children . .. The study showed 69% of the infants ran high fever 6 to 12 hours after vaccinations, and one had convulsions. One doctor pointed out that the routine vaccination of infants and children has not been recommended by the Public Health Service.

Dr G. Nossel of the World Health Organisation said:There has been no proper investigation . . . The vaccine has not been properly researched.. . There are too many unknowns."

Dr. Archie Kalokerines, medical superintendent of Colleranebri Hospital in Australia, called the swine flu immunization program "a plan for mass murder . .. If a person is susceptible, the vaccine may act as an immunological insult predisposing that person to things like pneumonia or anemia ... If an individual is incubating another flu virus it can cause an immediate and severe attack of that disease.. . We dont know what the long term effects of this drug (swine flu vaccine) will be. It may predispose a person to cancer or other diseases . . ."

THE NATIONAL ENQUIRER in an article by Chuck Michelini and Dan Schwartz, they write:"The mass inoculation program is needless because there are no cases of swine flu. In the entire world, government officials are trying to scare Americans into getting shots with totally misleading TV commercials that say swine flu is contagious and newspaper ads saying you can die if you arent vaccinated."Actually, swine flu is not contagious at all. Like other diseases, it is a cleansing effort of the body to force out the accumulated poisons that have been injected or eaten, breathed or taken in in some other way. Coughing, sneezing, sweating (fever), vomiting, diarrhea, rashes, eruptions, etc. are the manifestations of the unloading program and should not be interfered with by suppressive drugs or other medical meddling. Most drugless doctors say that most diseases heal normally if the patients stay at home in bed, in a quiet airy room with no food, no medicines, and no drinks except a little warm distilled water.

Dr. J. Anthony Morris, one of the US governments top experts on vaccines, stated:Theres no evidence that swine flu is a killer . . . It is not contagious . . . There is no evidence that swine flu will spread. The swine flu vaccine is worthless. Theres no evidence that it will protect you against swine flu.Dr. Morris was fired from his job because he opposed the swine flu program and pointed out the defects which showed it could be dangerous as well as entirely ineffective.

Dr. Weidman, of the University of Florida, a recognized virologist, also agrees that the swine flu vaccine is inadequate to do any good. Doctors both here and in England found that their tests on laboratory animals were not encouraging. When the dose was potent enough to kill the virus it also killed the animals and when it was weakened enough to be safe for animals and people it was too weak to do any good, and was no protection.

Dr. Selye of the University of Montreal, one of the worlds foremost authorities on human stress, stated:"After inoculations, elderly people and the chronically ill are particularly predisposed to have certain stress reactions such as heart failure." (Enquirer)In spite of this and other similar findings, the vaccine promoters urged all the senior citizens, the old and ill the high risk cases to be the first in line to get their shots.

Dr. Cyril Wecht, of Allegheny, Pa. performed autopsies on several of the flu vaccine victims and said:"People should have been advised to ask their doctor if the shots were safe for them, especially if theyd had heart attacks or high blood pressure but this was not done."

"Dr. Ernest C. Harrmann, associate professor of microbiology at Peoria, Ill., School of Medicine, believes that "the time has come to ask for resignations of all those behind the swine flu vaccine rip off.We dont know what the vaccine will do when it faces the virus." Yet, they all told the people it was "tested and perfectly safe.""(Enquirer)

Congressman Ron Paul of Texas is also a doctor in an interview with the Enquirer said: "I am outraged by this program. It has been a shocking misuse of funds and an evil political maneuver.

Congressman Larry McDonald of Georgia, also a medical doctor, said: "I think the swine flu program is a tailor-made hoax that finds its roots in frightening the American people . . . I believe that a full investigation of those in charge should be launched . . . and if it turns out to be a dishonest promotion, everyone responsible should be removed from their jobs."

Three more swine flu victims die!

BBC July 5th 2009

Asmaa Hussain died shortly after an epileptic seizure

Two nine-year-old girls and a man have died after contracting swine flu, health officials have confirmed.

One of the girls was named by relatives as Asmaa Hussain, of Dewsbury in West Yorkshire, who died last Thursday.

The man, who died on Sunday, was named by neighbours, also in Dewsbury, as Abdullah Patel, who taught at the town's Institute for Islamic Education.

The other girl, from south London, also died over the weekend. All three had serious underlying health problems.

An uncle of Asmaa Hussain said his niece had been an epilepsy sufferer since birth and had died shortly after a seizure on Thursday night.

After her death doctors told the family that tests showed she had contracted swine flu.

Heath officials said there was no known connection between her and Mr Patel.

Mr Patel, who is believed to be in his 40s, taught at Dewsbury's Institute for Islamic Education, which has been closed since 30 June after several students became infected with swine flu.

Journalist Fired Over Flu Pandemic Lawsuit

Kurt Nimmo

Infowars

July 7, 2009

Austrian journalist Jane Bürgermeister, who recently filed criminal charges with the FBI against the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations (UN), and several high ranking government and corporate officials concerning bioterrorism, has been fired from her job. “On Monday, I was unexpectedly fired from my job as European Correspondent of the Renewable Energy World website,” Bürgermeister writes on her blog.

Jane Bürgermeister contends offshore banksters have cooked up an engineered flu virus in order to realize their eugenics plan for mass extermination.

“Because there is reason to believe this decision was related to my filing charges alleging bioterrorism against the people of the USA and the rest of the world, and because I am entitled as a citizen to report a crime if there is credible evidence, I intend to file a lawsuit against Pennwell, a magazine,” she explains. “I have heard of other journalists fired or harassed for covering this subject.”

In a document entitled Bioterrorism Evidence, Bürgermeister points to an international corporate criminal syndicate and extensively details its plan to carry out mass genocide against the American people by unleashing a deadly flu virus and instituting a forced vaccination program.

“There is proof many organizations — World Health Organization, UN as well as vaccine companies such as Baxter and Novartis — are part of a single system under the control of a core criminal group, who give the strategic leadership, and who have also funded the development, manufacturing and release of artificial viruses in order to justify mass vaccinations with a bioweapon substance in order to eliminate the people of the USA, and so gain control of the assets, resources etc of North America.”

Bürgermeister says the core group sets its strategic goals in secret using the Trilateral Commission and Bilderberg meetings. “It can be identified as the ‘Illuminati,’ a mafia-like group with family dynasties at its center.” It is the “world’s first truly global crime syndicate” based in “off shore banking centers” and employs international organizations such as the UN and WHO.

In her lawsuit, Bürgermeister alleges that a manufactured flu pandemic “is part of a long term plan by the syndicate, who have built large numbers of FEMA concentration camps with incinerators and prepared mass graves in state such as Indiana and in New York to quarantine people and dispose of the bodies of the people who are killed by the bioweapons attack.”

Infowars and Prison Planet have posted reports on the construction of mass graves. In February, D. H. Williams, writing for the Daily Newscaster, published a report on FEMA and DHS vaccination and mass grave plans in the vicinity of Chicago and northern Indiana. In March of this year, Infowars posted extensive coverage of mass grave sites in Arizona and Texa

Bürgermeister names Barack Obama, the UN’s Influenza coordinator David Nabarro, WHO director Margaret Chan, HHS secretary Kathleen Sibelius, DHS secretary Janet Napolitano, bankster kingpins David de Rothschild and David Rockefeller, international criminal financier George Soros, and others as defendants. The WHO, European Union, the CDC and other research labs, FEMA, vaccine companies, and the DHS have interacted with each other to develop and distribute biological weapons, the journalist contends, and have leveraged funding through the banking system and its global drug trade mechanism.

The Rockefeller Foundation has funded the eugenics movement for over a century. “The Rockefeller Foundation is the prime sponsor of public relations for the United Nations’ drastic depopulation program. Evidence in the possession of a growing number of researchers in America, England, and Germany demonstrates that the Foundation and its corporate, medical, and political associates organized the racial mass murder program of Nazi Germany,” writes Anton Chaitkin. “In the 1950s, the Rockefellers reorganized the U.S. eugenics movement in their own family offices, with spinoff population-control and abortion groups.”

Billionaires Ted Turner and Warren Buffett have funded the eugenics movement. “Other billionaires have begun funding parts of the eugenics movement. Bill Gates, the richest man in the country, and George Soros, the financier, have started putting their money into population control projects,” writes John Cavanaugh-O’Keefe in The Roots of Racism and Abortion: An Exploration of Eugenics.

Bürgermeister’s charges include evidence that Baxter AG, Austrian subsidiary of Baxter International, deliberately sent out 72 kilos of live bird flu virus, supplied by the WHO in the winter of 2009 to 16 laboratories in four counties. Bürgermeister “noted that Baxter’s lab in Austria, one of the supposedly most secure biosecurity labs in the world, did not adhere to the most basic and essential steps to keep 72 kilos of a pathogen classified as a bioweapon secure and separate from all other substances under stringent biosecurity level regulations, but it allowed it to be mixed with the ordinary human flu virus and sent from its facilities in Orth in the Donau,” writes Barbara Minton for Health News.

On June 29, Bürgermeister sent an email to the Fourwinds 10 website indicating she plans to take legal action against Sorcha Faal, a mysterious writer often accused of penning sensationalistic disinformation. “I can confirm I am the Jane Burgermeister who sent the email to Fourwinds10 setting the record straight about Sorcha Faal’s false report linking my charges against Baxter for their role in contaminating vaccine material with 72 kgs of live bird flu virus and the sudden death of Michael Jackson,” she wrote. “I am now looking at legal action against whoever writes under the name of Sorcha Faal. I believe this is a deliberate and cynical attempt by the people behind Baxter etc to manipulate public opinion by trivializing Michael Jackson’s death and the Baxter investigation.”

Faal’s disinfo worked so well that even medical doctors emailed Bürgermeister asking her to confirm the link to Michael Jackson. “I have had to spend a lot of time explaining that the Sorcha Faal report is a tissue of lies,” Bürgermeister complained.

Give it a rest Mike. Besides, you've been on the Forum long enough to know that attention spans here are short, and no one will read a long post like yours above.

H1N1 is no hoax. Nor is it benign. Next time you're interested, take a look at the ages of the Thais who have died of this flu variant. While it is true that most had some other health condition that weakened their resistance, they aren't the very young or elderly. This virus has a special way of killing. Don't underestimate it.
