I need to hire a car from July 23 to July 30 from BKK. Last year I hired one off the street in Hua Hin and got a fabulous deal. Will I be able to get a cheap deal at the airport or should I book online before i come. Any recommendations would be welcome.

Also depends if you want transport from the airport and, in some cases, whether you want 'proper' insurance cover.

I pre-booked online here:-

Cheapdeal at the Airport? No.

If you speak any Thai, check out Krung Thai carrent on Asoke/Ratchada. You can usually get a promotion car for 750Bpd.

Otherwise, renting a Vios should not set you back more than 1000-1200Bpd.

Most privately owned cars for rent dont have any insurance AT ALL after the first year, becuase the rentalagreement states you pay whatever you are involved in. Even if you are not to blame, most private agreements does not allow you to return the car before its repaired. The private rentals often have problem getting insurance after the first year, because of too many claims first year.

thairentacar is 990 baht at the airport for Vios.. Need creditcard 40-45k baht reservation.

hi, i lived in BKK until recently and hired cars there quite often, mostly with hertz at wireless road office. pleasant people.

if i were you i would call a few of the agencies and see what deal you can get. remember it is a very bad time now for them and they are firing a lot of people, so you must be able to get a good deal.

the problem about the small agencies is that i do not trust them with the insurance they sell so i usualyy take the well know ones

Thanks Chaimai - the Thai Rentacar 888/day promotion looks like it will do the job. It is the best rate I have found at the airport for a decent size car.

Check their insurance, if they really have a "Rental Car Insurance", Commercial Type.

Was paying anything form 1200 to 1500 baht a day for 2 years at Budget Ubon airport (including extra insurance) for a 2.5 Toyota Vigo pickup.

Recently found TV.coms own advertised rental agency and I'm now paying 900 baht a day. Same deal (except maybe I lose some of my 25% pre-paid deposit if I cut short. I'm sure I detected a look of 'sh*t, he's found the cheap option' when I handed over the booking voucher.

Cheers TV.com

So far as can see on their homepage, they take 40'k imprinted credit card deposit, or i'm wrong?

It is very difficult to understand. Is the vehilce now insured or not? Copied and past in their text:

12. VEHICLE RESPONSIBILITY

THAI RENT A CAR holds the renter responsible for the safe return of the rental vehicle in the same condition as it was rented, except for normal wear and tear

Unless prohibited by law, a renter may be held responsible for all damages, should the vehicle be damaged in an accident, stolen or vandalized. This is the case regardless of fault.

The renter may asked to pay for the damage up to and including the total cost of replacing the vehicle in case of total wreck or loss
