Heard there is elephant trekking at phuket ...is it worth a try ?How much would be the approx cost..is the cost same for thais adnd expats or do expats get a discount on work permits ?

I would only consider having one at a sanctuary where the care of the elephants is the top priority rather than the money from the rides. I have been to several up north where the elephants are very well treated. I don't know about the one on Phuket. No chance of a discount for WP or anything, on Phuket you are a tourist farang to nearly all Thai's

In Kata on the way to the viewpoint is Kok Chang Safari. Their pricing structure is fair as it is the same price for everyone.

They also just built a petanque (boules) court if anyone is into that. There is a nice bar that gets great sunset views over Kata noi beach and overall great veiws of the sea, a nice relaxing place to hang out. Also plenty of backgammon ...

There used to be to free roaming gibbons but now they are in an enclosure but you can still feed them..

It is a commercial facility however it is not as commercial as some of the other places that get tour buses pulling in. They also don't use agents.

From their website:

Prices and transportation

20 minute elephant trek 600 THB 30 minute elephant trek 800 THB 60 minute elephant trek 1,000 THB Children 4 - 11 years old half price, children under 4 free of charge

Please note we provide complimentary pick up in:

Karon, Kata, Kata Noi, Nai Harn, Rawai and Chalong.

For pick-up in Patong we charge a service fee of 100 baht per person for the round trip, and free for children 11 years old and younger.
