I am in the middle of putting a application for a tourist visa for my girlfriend and her daughter to come to Australia.My question is the stat dec required is that to say i will cover all costs involved in the trip if they gain a visa?

It is NOT required.....a covering letter will suffice.....however some of us here believe that a Stat Dec holds more sway as it is a legal document.

Seconded - I did it with no stat dec, and they are not a requirement for an Aussie tourist visa. Letter from my employer showing that I had a job, letter from me undertaking to finance the trip, letter from her employer and bank statements showing that I had enough cash did the trick.
