Retina

Featured Replies

Been told by the eye clinic i went to get my eyes checked that i have a hole in my retina but can be cured what is involved im not scared just curious.

I just had Lasik eye surgery and I didn't feel a thing.Million times easier than a cleaning at the dentist just $4500 more expensive. No more contacts feels like heaven.

A hole in the retina is retinal detachment and a laser can correct it easily and the procedure is much easier and faster than eye surgery.

Bizz - Had the same problem 4 weeks ago.

At first, I was told "it" looked like a hole, but my eye doctor called in a Retina Specialist, who examined me and said it was a tear (partial detachment), not a hole, as it had a "flap".

A week later, had laser surgery. They numb the eye with drops, so there's very little or no pain. First hour following the laser surgery, had some "bluring" but later drove home. Full recovery in 48 hours.

It is critical you take care of this ASAP, as if any liquid within the eye gets behind the retina, you would probably have to have "knife surgery" to drain the liquid, hopefully preventing a full retina detachment.

With the laser surgery, basically they laser the hole/tear with a circle of laser "spotwelds". In my case, which I believe was standard proceedure, they did 3 circles, each slightly larger than the previous one. (Takes about 200-300 "zaps".)

DO NOT POSTPONE seeing a retina specialist. Corrective action needs to be takes as soon as possible.

Good luck and let us know how everything works out.

cheers :o
