Hi,

can anyone tell me if a ten year old child has to have a biometric passport? If so how is that done does the child have to come to Regent House with us or can we hand in the papers on our own?

Cheers,

Dave

The child has to come with you to Regent House and have their biometrics recorded at the same time as the paperwork is handed in.

He hasn't got his passport yet, It only takes a week and we were planning to come back to Bangkok and hand in the paperwork. We weren't planning to take the boy with us because we didn't think we had to.

Do they want a fingerprint even if the applicant is only a nipper?

You're talking about two things here.

Firstly the passport is done by the Thai passport office and yes, your child does have to go in person so the Thai authorities can record his biometric details and take his picture digitally for the passport.

Secondly Regent House is where you go for the UK visa application, and again yes the child has to go in person so the UK authorities can also record his biometric details.

Yes I realized I said passport when I meant to say visa. I know he has to go with his mum to get the passport but I hadn't realized he needed to be there when we hand in his papers.

It seems from the e-mail I had this morning fromthr VFS that the visa application has to be done online and that you have to make an appointment to hand them in.

According to the VAC website you can

Attend a visa application centre at your convenience or schedule an appointment on line to submit your application form and for Biometric Enrolment

BTW, it is very confusing (and annoying!) when someone starts two threads on the same subject. Please stick to one.
