wedders
Friend has just arrived in Bangkok, staying Sukhumvit 11 for a few nights before heading for Chiang Mai. He's done his back in - any recommendations for a good Thai massage in that area? (No, he doesn't need any help finding 'alternative' massage services - his resistance is weak, and he wants to be able to still walk by the time he gets to CM )... wedders
Dream Massage, saintofsilence? Going by their website, that is definitely NOT what he needs right now! I'm talking real, traditional massage here.

wedders
After a B2B he would be in need of crutches, mrtoad. Don't any TVers in Bangkok Sukhumvit like a real traditional Thai massage without the 'extras', then?
keeniau96
Go down to Sukhumwit Soi 5, then up the street to just past the FoodMart?? place (great supermarket, good food at the front counter). Make a right turn on next little side street (memory foggy here, maybe two streets up). Look down the street about 10 m, there is a sign hanging above head level with typical Thai massage picture of human body pressure points. Name of place is Buktapik (or someting close to that). Great Thai massage 350b/2 hours. Massage from blind men/women. Talk to the lady at the desk, all others only speak Thai. Sign at the desk "no sex, don't ask". Been great for about 20 years back in my experience. I usually give 50 baht tip. Can hit the Nana bars afterward feeling great.
wedders
Thanks keeniau, that's just the thing. There's a Buathip Massage (4/13 Sukhumvit Soi 5) according to a web search - that sounds like it?
mhan77
Thai massage can make his back worse. does anyone know if bumrungrad has a chiropractor ?
sukeroku
I agree, a mellow oil massage is much easier on the back than a typical Thai massage.
MandoDog
Try HealthLand on Ekamai. Coming up from Sukhumvit it will be on your right hand side, large place with Yellow sign/flags by the street. You could walk, but taxi's are so cheap (and I'm so lazy.....). Great massage in this place.

khunjack30
Try tonys on sukhumvit 23 its on the left hand side. You can get a good massage for 100 baht, and then you can head to cowboy after.
sanmiguellight
There is a decent one on the corner of Soi 8 looks as if they spent a fair bit kitting the place out, certainly no naughty business going on in this one.
jfchandler
There's a perfectly good regular Thai massage place right on Suk Soi 11...just opposite the Villa Market there, and just across from the Cheap Charlie's bar... It's a salon and massage place called Senz Spa and Salon... Good service, friendly ladies and reasonable prices. Across the road, on Soi 8 in the second block on the right hand side is Pornvilai Massage, also good service and reasonable priced. Most of the other places mentioned above are massage/sex places.... ie. Dream, Tulip, Orchid, etc....
waterford
Also on Soi 11 - accross Soi 11 from Villa, a very unassuming place called "Footjoy". Great foot massage and also great Thai massage from anyone I've ever tried there. Not a sex place at all. If you like it strong, ask for ON. I think most if not all were originally trained at Wat Po. By far the best place I've found in the three years I've been here. As for a Chiropractor, Dr. Don Nakaya at BIOEnergy Asia Suk, SOI 23 02-258-0350 Japanese/American Speaks English, Thai, and Japanese? Very Good. sgunn65
went to a massage place yesterday which had a very large sign saying NO SEX. 30 minutes into a very average massage I was offered a bj!!! Perhaps the girls can't read the sign. Had an excellent massage at Lan Po on soi 13 though. Definately no hanky panky but an excellent massage. PatinBKk
I like a good massage but personally gave up in that area as after about 15 trys, each and everyone of them wanted to do extras...the shops looked genuine and the girls also but to no avail could I find anywhere....get down to KSR and that is genuine with definatly no hidden agenda
jfchandler
Every shop is different, and even different ladies within the same shop. And the outside appearance is not always a telling sign. But even with those factors as givens, I've certainly had ladies in "normal looking" Thai massage shops -- as opposed to the clearly sex oriented "teen" and dream" shops -- around Sukhumvit ask about extras... Of course, it's in their economic interest to do so, if they're game. But I've never had a bad experience when in such a situation, I simply said, mai bpen rai... no thanks... not today, or... Ohh...I like to, but my GF be very moho (angry) mak mak. If anything, I've heard many stories from ladies who work in the industry, who don't do "extras", about getting pawed by over-eager tourists or even ex-pats who refused to take NO for an answer, or who expected that everyone working in a massage shop is game for "extras." That's simply not the case. If you get a bad massage, then that's cause to complain. But if you get a good massage and the lady asks about extras, it's not that hard to just say NO, and finish the good massage, and tip nicely. eric67
When I'm looking for just a good massage I usually go to Bai Po massage on Soi 11/1 , the small Soi behind Soi 11. All the staff there (mostly women, some men too ) wearing those white Mor Nuat jackets. Don't think I've ever had a bad massage there........ machlad
Thai massage can make his back worse. does anyone know if bumrungrad has a chiropractor ? bmbalsano
Lavanna Spa - Sukhumvit Soi 12. NICE place, upscale. Private rooms. I get an 60 minute oil massage for 800 baht. This is about twice the price as street places, but worth it in ambiance and relaxing atmosphere.
samran
Just go to Health Land on Ekamai. Where many Thai's go. Excellent.

Sukhumvit 22 May Massage closeby to the Queen's Imperial Park Hotel. Traditional thai massage only. Don't walk into any of the other places closeby as they generally do a lot more than the traditional massage. Most of their masseurs are good--300 baht for two hours. Scubadude770
Sukumvit Soi 22 same side as Regency Park hotel only 100 meters as so further into the soi. Big shop with large open window. It is at the very front of Queens Park Plaza however DOES NOT do "special massage". Khun Noi , nickname Dee is an instructor there and has helped me through many back pains, ankle sprains, and other muscelo-skeletal problems. Coming from an expro-athlete; she is absolutely the very best masseuse I have every had. The rest of the staff is competent as well but some of them are trainees. Just ask for Khun Noi or Dee and you will be quite happy with the results. As posted by others ... most shops on this soi are sex shops but not this one. I do not know about May Massage as I have never had to go anywhere but the one I recommend above. Sorry but I have never known the name of it in the 5 years I have been going there ........ I will ask tomorrow as it has never occurred to me to inquire before.
