Yesterday there was a public meeting at the Tessabaan office in Nathon wherein Chevron made a public presentation of the results of their initial environmental impact study for oil exploration approximately 65 kilometers off the coast of Koh Tao. The project is referred to as G4/50. The plan calls for 12 sites to be explored for existence of hydrocarbon

30 or so people (government and civilian) were in attendance, with most vocally opposed to Chevron's plans.

I post this item for two reasons.

1. To see if more information is available on the topic. Is it a 'done deal' etc?

2. To bring some attention to this story as up until yesterday I'd only heard it as a rumour. Afterall, only 30 people in attendance for a subject of this importance is a bit of a shame.
