Thai Marathon Conspiracy

Featured Replies

And so it just so happened that the next runner up happened to be Thai. Probably a Taxi-Motorbike driver disguised as a race official with a cup of water, same kind of set up as the Thai girl jumping on the back of a motorbike just in time to get pulled for not wearing a helmet! :)

"The women's race was marred by controversy when the top three Kenyan runners to cross the line, including the winner Pamela Jemeli Kipchage, were later disqualified after it was discovered they took on water from an unauthorized drinks stop. This handed victory in the race to Thailand's Sunisa Sai-lomyen, a past multiple winner of this event, who this year finished in a time of 2:49:35. Another Kenyan athlete, Truphena Jepchumba Kurui, took the runner up award with a time of 2:52:33."

Is a beer bar considered an unauthorised drinks stop?

Knowing what we know about Pattaya and the way it is organised, who can seriously believe that the top 3 non-Thai Kenyans all took water from an unauthorised water person (and where were the stewards?!), but then the perons who came in fourth did not, without some form of collusion. What about any other disquailfications.

Surely a runner is entitled to believe that the course is so properly managed and marshalled that this kind of thing cannot happen. And if it does, it isn't the runners fault.

It's a bt like the Duty free scam. Immediately, someone knows something funny has gone on. Funny that.

This deserves to be well publicised globally as well.

Must have been a lot of money riding on Khun Sunisa :)

Surely you're making this up--the top three Kenyans were disqualified?

Amazing Thailand if this is really true. I'd be sure this was a sendup if I hadn't been here so long.

It's amazing how far Thais will go to make Thailand look good! In 2003 I was listed in Thai newspapers as the winner of the Los Angeles Marathon just because I have a Thai wife. And I don't even run marathons!

Along the course of any marathon there will be people handing water out who are not on official water tables. Definitely a scam and feel bad for the Kenyans because thai(s) cheated. If the thai runner had any sense of fair play she would give the title to the Kenyan who actually won.

This is such an obvious scam, with a bit of a childish bent to it... waaa, you don't win, you drank water *that* lady gave you.

Most Thai ladies I've ever seen find it hard to break into a trot to get across a street or out of the way of imminent danger...I recall many years ago a female in a 10k run was picked up by her boyfriend and dropped off closer to the finish line..she went onto win the race but later was disqualified..geez.

I suppose that the Pattaya Marathon is organised under the auspicien of some kind of (Global) Sports Organisation. If that's the case, and the Kenyan runners will protest, it could have been the last Marathon so far, and another so called "major festivity" is down the drain.

If? Zero hope of that. Thais have a very poor opinion of Africans. I recall the Thais poking fun at an African boxer a few years ago prior to the bout, wearing black make up and their version of African traditional dress, just before the African boxer knocked the crap outa the Thai boy. Justice was served!

I doubt the runners had the chance to stop and check ID.

Thais cheated to ensure their runner was the winner, no escaping the fact. Wonder why they didn't do the same on the men's side? Maybe that was too obvious.

Reckon they should only invite Thais next time, then they are sure to win.

Do you think that Thailand's blatant corruption and un-sportsmanship like behaviour has spoilt the chance to hold the Olympics in Pattaya? :)
