I learn that The Lanna Spa in Central have started setting up the trendy "FishPedicure" in their second floor foot massage Spa

which will be opening towards the end of next week.

It would seem that those with foot problems such as hard skin, calluses, and bacterial smells, will benefit from this new to Phuket Treatment.

Beleive its here allready ,

On bangla , ( i think the bangla suites spa has it )

I'm gonna start one using pirnha fish - to get rid of those hard to remove calluses.

If that fails I'll try vegemite oil massages.

The Lanna Spa now operating the fish pedicures

Big article in this month's "Absolute magazine"

Phuket Governor's Wife visited last week.

It's a great experience.

Have you tried it? Think il give it a try this weekend the absolute bar one. A few beers and get your feet nibbled on sounds great :)

The fish do not like beer; they will not nibble if you drink.

Tried the Fish Pedicure today;

I came out after 40 minutes with feet and lower legs smooth as a baby's bottom

wonder what it would be like to sit in the tank,

interesting anyway!

Very mixed opinions but it is acceptable in Asia if not in some US states; But we are not in US are we?

" issue: cosmetology regulations generally mandate that tools need to be discarded or sanitized after each use. But epidermis-eating fish are too expensive to throw away. “And there’s no way to sanitize them unless you bake them for 20 minutes at 350 degrees,” says Lynda Elliott, an official with the New Hampshire Board of Barbering, Cosmetology and Esthetics. The board outlawed fish pedicures in November.

In Ohio, ophthalmologist Marilyn Huheey, who sits on the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology, decided to try it out for herself in a Columbus salon last fall. After watching the fish lazily munch on her skin, she recommended approval to the board. “It seemed to me it was very sanitary, not sterile of course,” Dr. Huheey says. “Sanitation is what we’ve got to live with in this world, not sterility.”

Mr. Ho, a wiry 39-year-old, hopes the bans will lure pedicure tourists from fish-hostile states to the two Virginia locations of Yvonne Hair & Nails, which he owns with his wife, Yvonne Le.

The salons charge customers $35 to have their feet nibbled by fish for 15 minutes."

And compare the US price to Lanna Spa; 250bht for half an hour

A bargain to me .

I don't know if it's sterilizing of the fish, but the sterilizing of the water. Not trying to be pedantic just thought i'd mention it :)

I tried it when I was in KL last year. My heels were smooth as a baby's bottom after the treatment. I went for the bigger fish, the sensation was like someone exfoliating the dead skin off. The water was warm-ish.

I did have a concern about other people perhaps having fungal infection or other "transmittable" skin problems since the water was warm and they do not seem to change the water (or fish) after each customer...in fact whilst I had my foot dipping in the tub, another person came and dipped hers in too. I realised too late that it was a communal foot bath. Yuk. Would not do it again despite the wonderful results until I know for a fact that u can't catch fungus etc from a communal foot bath. Although we all had to wash our feet first, I am not sure everyone does it thoroughly or if washing gets rid of fungus.

The Lanna Spa make sure only cleaned feet go into the fish pool.

It's a must try; you'll be amazed.
