I was talking to a recently arrived friend yesterday who says he's been advised by his lawyer that he needs a retirement visa before he can buy a car and register it in his name. He's planning to get one in due course anyway but for now he's here on a 12 month Non-Immigrant B. My understanding was that you only needed:

A 12 month Non-Immigrant Visa

Certificate of Residence

Some money

to buy and register a vehicle. Did the rules change in the last year or so or was I wrong all all along? I'm in Chiang Mai, by the way.
