I am about to acquire a golden retriever puppy - 3 months old, from a friend in Pukhet. Does anyone have any good suggestions about how I might get her from Puhket to Nakhon Sawan (central Thailand) in the safest, most efficient and inexpensive way possible. All suggestions much appreciated. Regards.

What are your options, will you travel with the dog, do you drive etc etc etc

At present I'm busy for the next 3 months so I can't drive and get it. I also don't know of anyone locally who is going to Pukhet anytime soon. So the likely options are some kind of transport company, but I've had no experience of these firms in Thailand, and whether or not they transport pets - safely

yes its the 'safely' thing that will be the issue, will they stop and feed and water regularly etc, I can only think of posting in the Phuket forum to see if any of them are travelling north any time soon and will they bring the puppy for you, it's a 10 hour drive just to Bangkok so they will need regular stops. The other option as mentioned is flying the puppy up to Bangkok and you collect from there.

Edit to say also post in the pets forum to see if anyone in there can advise you

Just to confirm... the puppy would be checked in as "freight" and would just be dropped off at the airline by the selling . No need forany one to travel with the puppy.

Also as the above poster advised, you could hire a forwarder to help if needed. They could arrange for door to door or even just for pick up from BKK airport and transport to your home.

Without wishing to question your commitment to a new dog, but can you not find the time to at least meet a courier half way over a weekend maybe?

You are clearly paying a lot for the pup so as a percentage is the time out of your routine not worth it?

Phuket dog school

Many thanks to everyone for all the ideas, I may have found someone going down and back by car soon. Regards

Quite frankly, this is Thailand and there is no way would I trust any sort of transport company who do not specialise in pet transportation, with the care of my puppy.

These are times of economic hardship for many and I have no doubts that it will be easy to find someone with their own car willing to collect the dog, ensure it is feed and watered in comfort during transit and take it to the destination for a fee.

As for the expense, this should not be of a concern if you responsively care about it`s welfare and are going to be the guardian of this animal.

And just one more point, I hope you will be living in Thailand for at least a minimum of the next 15 years in order that the dog may see out it’s lifetime in a good caring home?

I had my concerns about being too busy for the next three months and wondering how he will find time to look after they puppy, but I assumed that he has family who will look after the puppy while he is at work. I go annoyed by another poster who once questioned my commitment to my dogs when I asked an innocuous question. I am sure if the guy has made an effort to try and find out the best way to get the puppy north shows that he has thought about his responsibilities.

As long asthe dog has all of the proper vacinations and valid health certificate, it would be possible for the dog to move overseas with the owner if needed...
