Green Book

Featured Replies

I've been looking to buy a bike prob around 400cc...A lot of the bikes i like seem to be imported parts and put together in Thailand to save on import taxes presumabely. My question is what are the fines or implications of not having this book/tabien.Can a tabien be made for a bike where many of the vendors say they only have the INVOICE...Many thanks for input..Bill

Hi Bill

I beleive a LEGIT book would cost around 55,000 for a 400cc bike and bikes have recently been impounded in BKK,CM&Phuket if unregistered.

There are other ways of getting books in Thailand but 'Yer pays yer money,Yer takes yer chance.

Here in Isaan, I regularly see Police on duty riding around on unregistered bikes and have heard stories about ferangs using unregistered bikes for years with no problems. If you want a safe route, buy a registered bike.

Bill. there are many posts on here reference the green book. But the general idea is no greenbook DO NOT buy. How much do you want to spend, what type of bike?

They take your bike, but you may stay out of jail. Invoice is proof of payment, nothing else.

Look for a bike with legal book 400cc, with import duties/tax payments registered on page 18. Anything else is close to worthless.

You need a legal book, not a recycled Dream book. Check page 18 for info on importduties and taxes.

Good luck. Happy riding

Edit. Ehhhh, for 180k you get a legal 2009 Kawazaki ER6n. Check the Kawazaki ER6n thread.

Or for your 100 - 120 you will get a lovely Ninja250. ideal as a first bike in Thailand (250 but can cruise all day at 130-40kmh). I think you should start seeing A LOT more for sale soon.

Why are they no good or deteriate quickly?

Dave............they were the ONLY reasonable priced bike last year and A LOT of people brought them. But now there are more to choose from and some riders will upgrade to the larger bikes... especially as the Ninja 650 is here...
