When Switching To A New Os

Featured Replies

I am planning on switching to dual boot with XP and a Linux system but I would prefer not to have to reload all the apps I already have on my Ubuntu system. I have, I think, backed up my internet bookmarks but wonder if it is possible to backup my apps like K3b and other things, or do I have to download them again?

I still have not decided which OS I will dual boot with.

You don't need to download again, just use "AptonCD", it's already in the repositories.

...sudo apt-get install aptoncd...

What does that do exactly?

It allows you to burn nearly all your installed progs on a CD to use it as an installation-medium for your next Ubuntu-Setup.

Easy to use, just try it & see what happens, can't do anything wrong, and a CD is only 5 Baht :-)

Brilliant! I'll do that just as soon as I finish trying to figure out Virtual Box, which might be a solution to not having to switch to MS XP.

That's exact the way I'm doing it, because there is only one prog impossible to get for Linux.

Virtualbox works without a flaw, but do not install the OSE Version, just install Virtual Box as shown in the following adress, so you can use USB on Virtual Box, that makes ist a lot easier!

Good Luck!
