I know that good dentists (and bad), have been flogged to death in the past, but how about a quick poll to see which of the below most mentioned practices are preferred by those of you who have used them. Okay, so there are a few variables into what makes a good dental clinic. One place might be good for cleaning and whitening for example, whereas another might specialise in say filings and falsies etc. But generally speaking, most offer the same or similar services, so a poll might at least give some indication to what members consider to be one of the dental gems of Chiang Mai.

Howdy, Drew :)

I've only ever used Chiang Mai Dental Clinic here, but a couple dozen dentists in greater North America. The founder extracted one of my last teeth, and Dr. Kravit did my dentures very well.

Hi PB. Thankfully, i'm not at the stage yet where i'm having the last of my nashers pulled :D But if i continue to leave such long periods between visits, it will only be a matter of time before advising people of the best place to have a full set fitted :)

Where is the RAM Dental Clinic?

Dam! I knew that would happen! I did try to go in adn amend the Poll G, but it seems that once polls are posted they become fixed. Sorry about that :D

I just added it to the poll. If there are other clinics, let me know and I will add them but should be requested soon as it would effect polling if much later.

The poll is missing too many other popular places (ie Dentaland, CM Dental, etc).

Hmm! Are there any more while we're at it? If so, it might be an idea to delete this thread and post a new one with a more comprehensive list in the poll.

Suggest adding Lanna Dental Care in there also. Seems a few good reviews on that place also (myself included)

But Drew, i dont mean to sound like im putting down your idea of the poll.. im just not sure if it will be able to give a good indication of where best to go. Many people go to the longest running one, or the most well known, just because they dont know of the alternatives. Lanna Dental Care for example is fairly new, so i dont imagine many will know it well yet. Plus, there is also a lot of different factors, such as what kind of dental work each individual has had done.

I think the poll will reflect which is the most well-known, rather than which is actually the most recommended. But i could be wrong!

Yes, the poll is quite meaningless in its current format. You will also need to have the option of "Other" and ask for a post for the name of the clinic not listed.

Exactly...."other" is missing. Suggest you close the thread and try again. Good idea however...

May I suggest to add "m2 (m square) dental clinic" in Wua Lai Rd."? Very satisfied with Dr. Montri's work for more than 10 years now.

Thanks.

And as far as I've seen "Fortune" has several branches in CNX. I can image that quality of each branch can be different (Maybe not the prices ...).

Steve2uk swears by Grace Dental clinic even if it costs a fortune and one root canal requires nine visits (all mine were done in one visit). But this poll is like asking which British saloon is best to guys who only drove Daimlers or Mini-Minors or Wolseleys or Vauxvall Victors. I mostly drove huge Ford V-8 "estate wagons."

Ok folks, there are some vaild points. Let's see it run for a few more hours and when a more comprehensive list is compiled i'll request deleting this thread and reopen it with a new Poll.

eek, that's a good point, but if somewhere is well know and well respected, it will get a worthy vote anyway. I also asked for those who have used the practices to vote. It's a bit daft is someone votes because they 'know-of' a place but have never been there for treatment. Hopefully, only those with experience of a particular dental clinic will vote.

Good point. The main reason for this poll was because there are numerous threads on dental clinics yet some go off on a tangent, whereas others are a bit long winded meaning they can be tad difficult to cherry pick from a bunch of mixed responses. If there is a poll that gets something like 60 votes, and 1 place gets say 22 votes, another 15, 1 more gets 12, and the others get a vote or 2 between them, then the visitor can see at a glance which ones are 'definitely recommended without having to so any further research.

A poll is interactive just as a normal thread is, meaning if members want to leave comments about new places or criticisms about those in the list, they are still free to do so. Of course it's not perfect, but i think a short-list of places included in a poll might help those in a hurry make a decission. If there is one place in the poll that has been around since the year dot, yet gets no votes, then maybe there's a reason for it.

I haven't been to any of the dental clinics listed so can't vote but would like to see the poll results. Is this possible?

According to my Dentist (Lanna Dental) in Chiang Mai there is over 100 clinics in Chiang Mai city. So your poll has barely scratched the surface.

Thanks Eek for your recomendation, I showed Dr Attavit your post on TV he was pleased)

That doesn't really matter garyh because the idea of the poll is to group together a bunch of the popular dentists used regularly by people here. There might be over 100 dental practices in and around CM, but if they're not known by most of us reading this, then they're not going to win any votes until such times as they gain a credible reputation, which a lot probably won't. Heck, if they were all worthy of a vote, there would be no need to dig out the good ones.

I think the Poll is broken :) It says Total Votes: 23 but when you count them, there are only 8 of the buggers :D

Not broken, View Results equals a null vote which won't show up in the tally.

Why not just close this thread and start it over including a few other dental clinics?

Good idea elektrified and it was the plan when a few more options came in. I'll do it tomorrow afternoon after i get home and request this one is closed or deleted so as not to confuse the issue.

There are about 100 Dental Clinics missing in this poll.

The ones in the poll (only 6) are just the fancy and expensive ones.

None of them are good though, they're all commercial, overprice 5 times all their treatments, especially RAM and GRACE.... BUT they have good marketing and all seem to have a full-time interior architect on the payroll.

I can understand you still think they're cheap when you're coming from the US where dental is overpriced a 100 times :)

Just go to any good Thai Uni Hospital (like Maharaj) and visit their Dental Clinic, you might need a translator for your first appointment, but you will get first class treatment (the treatment room there might need a paint-job, but you go for a dental and not for an interior design course) and if you need an implant for example, they give you 3 to 5 options to choose from, from really really cheap to really really top quality, but still inexpensive compared to the rest of the world.

Bottom line is, they give the same or even better profesional dental pampering for less money and with more options to choose from.

I wonder how many posters, who have never been inside a dental clinic, just tick any one of the selection, just so they can see the results of the poll.

My wife needed her 4 Wisdom teeth removed and I remembered many raving about Grace. Well we went there and they wanted to charge 4,000 Baht for removal of each tooth. Well we basically took the x-ray (which we already paid a pretty penny for) and went to another place. We ended up going to a dental clinic just outside the Super Highway ring, which was recommended by the owner of our building. To make a long story short, we paid 4,000 baht TOTAL to have all 4 wisdom teeth removed and a cleaning.... It's been awhile and absolutely no problems or after effects. The office was small, but spotless and the Dentist spoke near perfect English to me (Thai to my wife).

If you want to pay Farang prices, I suggest you go to places like Grace who advertise up the ying yang and make a killing off of those who don't ask around. Just ask your building owner, or a close Thai friend, and I'll bet you they don't recommend places like Grace.

You could also tie a string to your tooth and a door and slam it shut if you really want to save some

money. :)

Seriously, I would guess that normally the reputable, expensive places have better equipment, use better materials and give you better care, but sometimes the cheaper places are fine. I get my teeth cleaned and fill calories in the neighborhood places and shoot over to RAM for more serious matters.

I was going to close or get this thread deleted this afternoon and start a new Poll with more options on it. But after reading through the pages of responses, it appears that most folks think a popular poll used to highlight just a handful of local dental practices is a waste of time.

Not all good ideas are good ideas :) Therefore, I'll let this thread run its course and say no more about it :D

Thanks one and all for your contributions.

Well don't keep us in suspense what is the name and location where you got the dental work done ???

Across from Suan Dok Temple on Suan Dok Road is the 'Faculty of Dentistry' a teaching hospital. It's been highly recommended to me. Has anyone been there and what is your opinion? Thanks.

As for Craig's recommendation on the Super Highway, is it the small clinic after Lotus (Kamthieng), but before Kuangsing Junction? If so, that's a good place, reasonably priced. But they're good for basic work only. Anything complicated and they'll suggest you go elsewhere.
