Give these guys a break <deleted>, they are here to help you!

The High Profile visibility of the Volunteers goes beyond the 'Helpers for farang stage', there Black uniform shoulder 'Gold' insignia depicts them as Police volunteers, the additions of such things as handcuffs or indeed, (as reported above) batons indicates a Semi-Paramilitary Group; but what are it's remit..?? another indiscretion...(HM) How can it justify plain-clothes illegal operations..?? (apart from grassing -up ex-pats..........) Perhaps an HM1973 Bargaining tool...........

????

In 2007, 2 Russian young women were executed by an assassin, it took the prescence of the Commissioner in overall charge in Thailand's Police to attend Pattaya's Police and inform all the Police management and Officers to effectively refrain from corruption in order to solve it. They did as asked, arrested suspects, and established connections.

Now this same same, Pattaya Police Force get HM effectively to do it's biding through idiots who want to be 'Police' in order to make their life easier, HM then allows his business interests to take over, ie. being first at fatal accidents, road and otherwise, fed to him to show in graphic detail with photos, how their nearest and dearest died.

This is a corrupt practice, endorsed recently when a farang fell over in Walking Street, I witnessed them they saw it, never did see one them rush to assist him or his family, nor escort them back to the Hotel etc., which is this help Group, are they enamoured by HM's connections...??

We all Know HM enterprises, TV, digital and newspapers, and it appears now it's all a sham,

that does not answer the question!!!!!!

LiteBeer is correct - you need a WP to do this volunteer work and - despite managing to obtain a police volunteer visa - I never managed to obtain the WP :)

The guys in Bangers do a lot of in-office translation work and helping tourists/foeigners to file reports of theft, muggings etc. I did this work at Lumpini police station a few years ago and it's still going, expanding and soon to have volunteers based in other BKK police stations.

I have nothing for or against the Tourist Police volunteers... And in my years of living in Thailand (BKK), I've never had any contact with the Thai Tourist Police or the farang volunteers.

But it's interesting and perhaps telling to me that, despite the presence of at least a couple of the volunteers and/or their supporters here, they can't seem to manage a simple answer to any of the simple, legitimate questions I've posed here?

--What is the role/duty of the Thai Tourist police vs. the regular Thai police, and how do the two interact?

--If a farang gets into some difficulty with the regular Thai police, what role if any can/will the Tourist Police play?

--At least in Bangkok, how can the Thai Tourist Police play any useful role if for the most part, as generally reported here, their officers don't speak much/any English?

--And in regard to UdonFarang's comments, how is a farang supposed to volunteer for anything legally in Thailand when being a volunteer requires one to pay for and jump thru the hoops of annually renewing a Thai work permit (or face arrest for illegal working under Thai law)???

-police volunteers are issued work permits as far as I know.

-assist tourist police when foreigners are invoved - intermediary since language might be an issue as well as thai law.

Any rate why don't you talk to Howard - he's probably the most accessible person you have ever met. Sits down at the van on the top of Walking Street daily. Anyways maybe next time I see him - I'll ask him direct questions so we can put this to bed, however some people still will whinge about them regardless.

Uniforms - believe he stated those were chosen by the Thai Tourist Police, not the foreign staff. Anyways I've always seen them to be a very positive influence where I have encountered them... Pattaya, Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai. Those that whinge will never be happy, so I understand why HM has given up trying to reason with people on the forums.

"-If a farang gets into some difficulty with the regular Thai police, what role if any can/will the Tourist Police play?"

I thought that would be self evident.........they would do what ever the could to assist, regardless of a "Black Paramilitary uniform"......!!!

Within the law,i might add.

" As tourism to Thailand grows in leaps and bounds, do tourists need to take lessons in the art of being good guests?

Noel Kelly, head of the Koh Samui Tourist Police Volunteers' Group on Thailand’s Koh Samui Island, has a unique view into the current state of tourism on the island. “Petty theft is a major problem”, he says. “We work with the Tourist Police to provide assistance in these and other cases. The role of the Tourist Police is not to police the tourists, but to act as a cultural bridge.”

Udonfarang52, that information that you posted about the Phuket Tourist Police Volunteers seems rather out of date. The most up-to-date details can be found on their website at http://www.phuket-tourist-police-volunteers.com, where there are all the relevant contact details.

I wrote an article about the Phuket volunteers earlier this year. The url (if it doesn't get killed) is:

http://www.stickmanweekly.com/ReadersSubmi...reader4929.html

JFChandler, in regards to your comments about the BKK police not speaking much English, this was one of the primary reasons why the tourist assistance program was established several years ago, with translators based at (initially) the main police station at Lumpini Park, (which is the primary location for tourists to report thefts, muggings etc). All translators had to speak good Thai, and many volunteers were recruited from the Thai language and Thai Studies courses at Chulalongkorn University.

nice press release!!

still waiting to hear what any volunteer has actually done that would be considered helpful.

volunteered at Lumphini?

one the most notoriously corrupt stations in Thailand.

how could any self-respecting person associate with them.

i was locked up there once and had money extorted from me.

a young thai couple were locked in there without charge for a month (twice), the girl gave birth to her child in the cells.

so you do the police's work (taking reports) so they really can do less than nothing.

well you're just being used by the police like all of us.

udonfarang52 .. are you 52 years of age?

born 1957 ... if so you must have been 18 when saigon fell in 1975.

just checking... you brought it up.

would you volunteer to to work with organised crime in your home country?

so honestly, tell us why you volunteered.

how does it make you feel?

are you comfortable working with criminals?

from Udon farang. You have my age wrong, since you have checked my profile, check again.

DVA entitlement number TSS2547.....TPI 100%

I will accept your apology!!!

If you have the intestinal fortitude!!!

And i enjoy every day!!!!

What do you mean,"by working with criminals"?.........~!!!!!!
