Carputer

Any recommendations for a carputer shop in Bangkok?

Interesting. Never heard of such a thing. I thought for sure that was a typo, especially considering how many typos can be found on Thavisa.

Yes!!!!! I finally found a Thaivisa member who wants to build a carputer!! Unfortunately he knows nada about shops in Bangkok, just like me! :)

I've been looking for a car computer shop in Panthip Plaza for about 2 hours just last week, and only found a couple of GPS hardware dealers. They only sell Garmin GPS units and such. Nowhere I could find 7" or 8" Touchscreen displays.

What you CAN find in Panthip and MBK are those Car HiFi Multimedia systems (music, radio, DVD, GPS, etc combined) for 5-10.000 Baht. They have Touchscreen too and fit into a Double DIN slot in your car. They actually look pretty nice, but are 'closed' systems, just have the usual Audio input/output stuff and maybe USB to connect a thumb drive or such. No way to use that Touchscreen connected to a normal Windows PC.

There is one nice model that can even tilt the screen upwards, so the visibility is better if mounted low in the car (older cars usually have the radio shack in the lower part of the dash).

I can give you a description of where these shops are located if you are interested.

Do you want a real carputer or just the advanced Car Hifi stuff?

  • 2 weeks later...

I contacted a Thai member at mp3car.com and he pointed out this Thai CarPC online shop.

http://www.carmobilepc.com/

Product prices don't seem to be a bargain, but maybe it's unfair to compare to US prices since I come to understand that Hardware prices in Thailand are mostly higher than in the US (but not Europe)

I think they do installations, too.
