So its my girlfriend's birthday tomorrow. She's been talking about the iPhone 3GS forever, so a couple weeks ago I decided to be a nice guy and get her one. Turns out to get the genuine version with warranty, I needed to buy through True. Actually I had to fill out an application, pay 2000 Baht and reserve it for pick up on Aug 31. In order to pick it up, I was told I would need a valid work permit, passport and I would need to show up at the branch I selected on the day I selected or I would lose it. Not sure why its treated like a national security issue, but okay, she wants it so I went ahead with the plan to surprise her tomorrow.

Now I just got a call from True telling me they are really sorry, but they don't have any iPhones. They gave out 3,500 to the people who booked from Aug 19 to 28. Anyone after that is just out of luck because Apple didn't send them enough phones. Maybe in 3 weeks there will be new phones available.

What kind of amateur organization allows you to reserve the phone and takes a deposit without knowing for sure if they will even have it in stock on the day they tell you to show up with your complete documents? Pathetic really.

If it wasn't her birthday, wouldn't be such a big deal. But this has put me off True forever.

let's see, true has 2,000 baht of your money and they're the idiot ?

and i could go on about the wisdom of buying a $600 (!) phone for your GF (but i won't)

do u think she'll survive?

I always love the newbie Thaivisa philosophers. I can survive in a tent on water and fruit. That's not the point. I don't even like the iPhone. That's not the point either. And $600 on a birthday present! Oh my! Tell me the error of my ways oh wise one. I won't even ask what you think about the guys who buy their mia nois a condo, a car and then give them a monthly allowance.

Anyway, the point is that True is a major company. They announce that it is available and force you to place a deposit and schedule a pick up time. Then when it comes time to pick it up, they say "oh sorry", we don't have any of those and "maybe we'll have them in a couple weeks". No instant refund. No effort to protect their brand. Its just lame.
