Commuting To Patong

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Moving to Phuket on an ED visa to study at a language school in Patong and am trying to figure out a good place to live.

I've heard a lot about bad traffic and no doubt Patong is one of those areas.

Can anyone recommend some areas that are nearby and easy for commuting to school?

Kathu, I'm guessing? Maybe Kamala? Somewhere nice and quiet and peaceful but close enough to Patong?

We're going to buy a car, so it would also be great to know if anyone has suggestions about parking in Patong.

Looking forward to your responses.

Patong is a Small place, there are parking places but it depends on where you go to school,As for living there are many good places just outside of Patong, Maybe better if you go and have a look at the Area

Ok.... well is there any area you would recommend avoiding in terms of traffic?

I ask because we're coming there on holiday next month and move in November so I figured the people who are living there could give better advice than just us checking it out during our trip.

I live in Surin and commute to patong everyday for thai lessons. There is free parking directly outside the school and it takes me exactly 20 mins door to door. Can i ask what language school you are going to?

Patong area is not that bad for traffic. If you are commuting into Patong perhaps you should avoid staying in Kathu or Phuket Town as that's quite a busy route for traffic. If you stay in Kamala or Karon/Kata the commute is not that bad. I travle over from Kata to Patong each morning in 15 minutes.

Parking can be very difficult along the beach road and middle road (Rat-u-tit), but you should be able to figure out somewhere to park near your school, maybe the school has parking and is not in Patong centre.

Peterocket -- I'll be studying at PLS. Is this the same school you go to?

LivinginKata -- good to know that you can travel from Kata to Patong so quickly. Sounds like a good area to live and 15 minutes is a walk in the park.

How close are you to the beach?

Im studying at the Phuket BKK language school, shame really we could have had a beer after lessons...or before? lol
