September 11, 200916 yr I think its fair to assume that most of us eat differently in Thailand than where we moved here from. How exactly? Maybe you would like to share so I have provided a suggested structure to make this easy. Copy and paste the blank template at the bottom of this post and use the suggested frequency categories to describe your frequency. Fill in your own national food types. Home coooking counts. I came from: Urban USA There I ate: Mexican -- More than once a week Chinese -- Daily or several times a week Ethiopian -- Once or twice a month Thai -- Once a week Vietnamese -- More than once a week Korean -- Once a week American -- More than once a week Italian -- More than once a week Indian -- More than once a week Caribbean -- Once or twice a month In Thailand, I am at: Pattaya Here I eat: Thai -- Daily or several times a week Chinese -- Once or twice a month Korean -- Once or twice a month American -- More than once a week Italian -- More than once a week Indian -- Once or twice a month Pizza -- Once or twice a month German -- Once a week English -- Once a week Arabic -- Once a week French -- Once or twice a month Russian -- Once or twice a month Comments: I miss Mexican food and Chinese food the most. Here of course I get well priced Thai food and enjoy a variety of European food I didn't bother with in the US. _____________________________________ Empty Template to copy, paste and fill in: I came from: There I ate: Nationality -- Frequency Nationality -- Frequency Nationality -- Frequency In Thailand, I am at: Here I eat: Nationality -- Frequency Nationality -- Frequency Nationality -- Frequency Comments: Frequency options: pick the choice closet to accurate Daily or several times a week More than once a week Once a week Once or twice a month Anything less frequent than once a month, not worth listing
September 12, 200916 yr Author OK, oops, clearly this structured thread idea went off like a major league stink bomb. So how about some free form comments then, how has moving to Thailand changed the nationality types of the foods you eat?
September 12, 200916 yr Hi Jingthing,it seems you really like good food. I'm strictly vegetarian since many years,i hate to eat outside,i find the standard of cleanliness totally inadequate in most of the restaurants in Asia. If i cannot find what i like i can live on fruit, coffee and bread for days. When i go to BKK i have a soft spot for Indian food,at least the Indians know that fish is not a vegetable.. Normally i eat at home,i have my own restaurant(Italian)
September 12, 200916 yr USA - Daily - Mexican More than once a week - American, Italian Once a week - Thai, Chinese More than once a month - Korean, Japanese, American fast food Monthly - Indian, Vietnamese, Ethiopian, Greek, Arab Once or twice per year - German, English, Russian Thailand Daily - Thai More than once a week - Italian, pizza, American fast food Monthly - American, Korean, Japanese, Mexican, Indian, English, German, Arab Basically I eat a lot more Thai, pizza, pasta, and fast food than I did in the US. Never ate at McDonalds or KFC at home, but here I'm getting delivery once or twice a week Eat MUCH less Mexican because of high price, poor quality, traveling distance, and staff messing up my order. Eat more English and German as there are large expat populations of them and it's easier to find than American food. Never had Ethiopian or Greek in Thailand but would eat it more than once a week if I could.
September 13, 200916 yr OK, oops, clearly this structured thread idea went off like a major league stink bomb. So how about some free form comments then, how has moving to Thailand changed the nationality types of the foods you eat? A very interesting thread. The major difference I find is that I unfortunately get a lot more delivered to the door, as I did back home. It is just too easy/cheaper here than in my home country. Coming from a smaller North European country, it is naturally very difficult to find food from home, in Bangkok. I guess most of us will once in a while miss the food from back home. I know I probably will be "hammered" for this, and it is not meant in disrespect, but of all the expats I know, it is clear to me that the British are the one that miss the food from back home most.
