One-two-go Unofficial Rememberence Service At 3pm Today

Featured Replies

Very late notice I know, but we only just got permission from the new airport director to be allowed access onto the airport land.

At 3pm today, there will be a small and unofficial rememberance ceremony close to the site of the plane wreckage, with wreath laying. Some German friends/relatives of plane crash victims will be in attendance, as are a German TV film crew, Phuket Gazette and monks from Nai Yang wat. I just heard that the airport director also wishes to attend and is hastily erecting some tents because it's currently raining.

Anyone who has time to attend is very much welcome.

There was a good turnout for this ceremony, in total about 30 people. It was also attended by the new director of Phuket Airport and his senior staff, and they hastily erected tents close to the plane wreckage because of the rain yesterday. Press from both Phuket and overseas also attended. A Buddhist blessing was performed by monks from Nai Yang temple and 2 German relatives of plane crash victims laid a wreath. Wreaths from my hotel and myself were also laid.

I am very happy that the new airport director attended at very short notice. His attitude seems much better than his predecessor. I should also thank my ex who actually organised the majority of this ceremony since I'm not in Phuket. She has taken photos, so I'll try to get these uploaded in the near future.

There is a report also on the Phuket Gazette website.
