Hi,

Can anyone recommend somewhere reaonably priced to stay in Patong during peak season? The place I stayed last time is fully booked already!

My dear, dear, boy, save yourself a lot of time by simply emailing the establishments suggested to you. That way you will find that you will not be in the same situation as the red-faced young boy flustering his lines in the chemist when trying to buy his first packet of rubber-hoodies, only to walk out clutching some aspirins. I strongly suggest you use your preferred term ‘guest friendly’ and not ‘tramp-stamped-slapper’ when emailing. Good luck. :)

If they even have vacancies at that time of the year, I think you'll find it would cost about twice your stated budget.

The only places I have ever heard of not allowing "guests" are some backpacker style hostels. In fact some don't allow Thai females to stay there at all, as my Thai GF and I learned years ago when we tried to stay on Kaosan Rd. It seems they don't want to offend the delicate sensibilities of the other guests. Seemed very discriminatory to me at the time.

Other than that, I believe generally hotels will allow guests. Some will charge you and extra 300-500 baht for a guest.

I believe its called "joining fee", and there are not many charging it any more. Simply ask before booking. Or just ask for the roomprice first, and then say there will be 2 persons.
