Attack In Daylight On Female Jogger - Promthep Cape

Recommended Posts

Posted

I would like to advise for the safety of all females that an attack took place earlier this week on a Falang lady jogging in the Promthep Cape area. This attack happened in broad daylight at approximately 8:30AM.

Her attacker held her at knifepoint and beat her, making threats throughout the ordeal, however, she was extremely lucky to escape.

I understand that a similar attack occurred prior to the one above, where the attacker broke into another lady's home. Whether or not this is the same person, is yet to be established.

Please be very careful, take extra care & precaution & do not venture alone.

What a load of sensationalist cr*p for goodness sake! If you want to pick any tourist destination in Thailand and judge it based on the number of sensationalist headlines we can find about it then perhaps we can have a competition as to who can build the longest list of rubbish. meaningless, absolutely meaningless and very juvenile.

And in the UK the statistics would be double, so either pack up and go, move to another province/region or don't come here.

Try enjoying life a bit instead of this pathetic, negative self-indulgence.

rubbish; over a year's worth oh headlines; check any daily newspaper from any city this size and you'll find similar headlines.

I'd rather be here than some other cities I've lived in - and that's why I'm staying here.

And throughout this whole piece we have omitted to think of the subject of the attack, I for one hope that she recovers well and soon - my apologies for having been distracted from what should have been the real focus of attention.

Good point; back on focus.

I haven't yet seen any report of this, normally local media would have reported by now.

A shame if true, on my regular cycling route and I'd have considered it safe as there always seems to be people about; have 2 female friends who do the walk there from Rawai together most mornings leaving round 6am; the OPs note re not being alone is most relevant here.

Hmmm...forgive me for being skeptical, but these anti-Phuket posts seem to pop up every now and again. Previous posters were proven to be people with something to gain by tourists visiting other areas of Thailand. Both posts by newbies less than 3 posts each. :)

Incidentally, I was in and around Promthep Cape yesterday and saw many people out jogging, including farang females. Everything seemed normal, and there was no chatter of this incident, and nothing so far in the local news. This doesn't preclude the possibility of this happening, but it makes me skeptical. There is no mention of a source, or a motive for the attack. Was it a robbery? A sexual assault? Or what? Can we have a source of this info? (I have PM'ed the OP, but my guess is we wont get a response from the OP, because they are a troll) In the mean time I am going to contact the local papers to check the story's validity. I am hoping it's false. Unfortunately it's impossible to prove something didn't happen, and trolls know this.

Please be very careful, take extra care & precaution & do not venture alone.

Being careful is always good advice, wherever you live, but obviously the "do not venture out alone" advisement is utter nonsense.

Not sure about the Troll aspect, the OP's other posts are concise, well constructed and relevant to the threads. Makes me wonder why he flew off on a tangent on this one. Must have taken ages to compile

This is an important matter which should not be taken lightly.

I know the lady who was attacked first hand & can guarantee that this incident absolutely took place. I am not about to reveal names.

For those who wish to believe this is some sort of 'troll' message, I would recommend you choose to comment in such a way on a post of a nature which is not serious.

For those who would like to listen, please, be careful. What more can I say and why on earth would anybody make something like this up, this is NOT a joking matter.

This has already been posted on Chicky net , a farang female forum. Their was an email circulated by another farang female that happpened to come across the incident. The email was sent out to many farang females in the area.

This is Fact and it is not in the local press as they did not have the details . As a result a running group of Farang women have started a runing group

The OP was being SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE by making the post, not a troll.

THis was a violent incident which did take place.

I'm not averse to the information that you're posting, but please, get it into context, and to regurgitate news from 3+ months ago doesn't do a great deal for your credibility. Do you actually live here???

poor laosuwan and xstatic

irrespective of what several others might think or expressed here,

i wish to thank you for your posts and your concerns over the general affairs on phuket....

i visited phuket often--only when necessary--when friends and relatives from homeland coming to visit....

the geographical pictures gathered by visiting friends and relatives were immensely impressive

but other than that, everything else beginning with local attitudes--charging whatever you can....

and worst of all--who asks you to come to phuket....

if you don't like it...., if you can not afford it...., if you don't want to pay this price.... don't come.....

mostly i ended up with having to explain and apologize to my own friends and relatives that....

NOT ALL THAIS ARE LIKE THIS, AND NOT ALL OTHER SOUTHERN TOURIST PLACES ARE LIKE THIS....

LET'S HEAD OVER TO KRABI AND TRANG TO VISIT JOHN, TOM, MIKE, TED... FOR A DAY OR TWO

yes, i do have wife's side several relatives who are proprietors of large resorts, restaurants, motor cycle rentals in phuket....

they all love phuket very much, especially the high seasons.... lol

but none of them wants to talk out loud in public.... about what phuket is really like.... for fear of whatever might befall them....

we all agree on one similar thing--the changes must come from the very top reigning bureaucrates.... who can draw the STRAIGHT line on the sand for the proprietors and their hirehands to follow.... lol

I agree 100% this is a serious matter and should not be taken lightly, and is not a joking matter. (I don't think I suggested it was a joking matter) And that is precisely why I challenged the source with a request for confirmation and sources. It wasn't even mentioned whether XStatic knew the victim or it was just hearsay. Now we know. Please understand my motivations. This is what makes good reporting, not an anonymous unconfirmed claim. The victim deserves more than that. Taken in context, (the sensationalist Phuket bashing followup post, two newbies, not much detail or sources provided) this followed the same pattern as other anti's posting on TV. This report needed to be confirmed, and now, sadly, it is. Sorry for the bit of reverse psychology, but getting a story right about a violent crime against a woman or child is important. I would still like to know the motive for the attack and the outcome. Was someone arrested? Is there a suspect we should be watching for? Was the suspect Thai or farang? Was it random? If it's connected to the other attack mentioned, should we be concerned it's a a serial rapist?

My God, do you really think everything is in the news, cant believe this do you think you hear about everything going on here....

No, I don't. My comment about it not having heard of this, or seeing it in the news (after 6 days as it turns out) was just one of many reasons I gave as to why I, and others, were questioning it. We all know that the local rags are often muzzled when it comes to reporting events damaging to the reputation of Thailand and it's tourism. Frankly, I am a little disappointed that a greater effort wasn't made to inform the media about this. Maybe I am wrong, but apparently I am the only one that has done so, with no response yet. This doesn't deserve to be 5 line anonymous post of dubious reliability tucked away on Thaivisa as it was when I posted my reply. I just hope the victim recovers fully and justice brought to the offender.

My apologies if my reply offended anyone, that wasn't my intention, getting to the bottom of the story was.

Hi

Good one Scubabuddha, like you came back with this.

Maybe thats why i did not repport it the same day i heard about it i knew it was true, if i had put it in here that day a lot of guys would be all over me, now you know why, i could tell you a lot of stories but who would believe it???

Just look at the one i put in about the laptop, maybe i should just have done nothing who know, but maybe i did help a person or 2

Is this news attracting such passionate posts because it was a "falang" who was attacked? A female? In broad daylight? Or what?

Anyone who has lived here for any length of time knows that Phuket is not exempt from crime.

Even if you take reasonable precautions, bad things can happen when you venture out. But these are the risks we take by refusing to stay locked up in our bedrooms inside a gated villa compound.

And I daresay that most of the violent crime here occurs among the Thai themselves. Yet that doesn't seem to attract much interest on this section of the Forum.

For the average ex-pat living here, suely Phuket is exceptionally safe.

Posted

Please, this is a general warning, posted on this forum as public information.

We've now established, I believe, to those who were uncertain that this incident did, in fact, take place.

Of course, we all understand that crimes occur wherever one chooses to reside, that is not the point, nor is it to create bad press for Phuket. It is simply advice that such incidents have occurred in this area & to be aware.

Yes because Manchester tourism is just so compelling. :)

Cant wait for my next visit.

My mother was only here a few months and was threatened a few times.. One Fruit vendor demanded 200 baht for a slice of watermelon and when my mother (your typical little old lady) tried to politely protest that was too high he came at her with his knife screaming in her face that she ordered it now she had to buy it and ranting in Thai, she arrived at my house in near tears. Just day to day life where the weak have no police force that will help a farang over a Thai.

I could easily have said the London Evening Standard, given the quest for compelling tourism (though Manchester does rate highly for both culture and shopping, and has more tourists than you would think)! No matter. Absolutely terrible experience for the lady, (and your mother) and one no-one would want to endure. Good heads up for location and risk. My point was the level of street crime globally, and the escalation of viciousness. Difference in other parts of the world of course, is that prosecution and media reporting are vastly different.

Story is now being reported on another phuket news site with some more details.

Yes the one that can not be named.

Poor woman attacked last year also.Just makes you wish you were driving past just as the scum was running away

So now its a rape and 'sexual attack' 2 in 24h..

Given the population of the island comparing Manchester or London is just clutching at straws..

Posted

I cant quote the article mentioned but jesus.. Who were the two piece of weak sh1t who saw the woman being raped and kept on riding or walking away ?? I mean <deleted> !!

No doubt. Give me 5 minutes with him.

That is great at least one media source has run the story now. Gets the word out and puts a little more pressure on the police to take action. I am curious though why we still have no description of the perpetrator(s)? I feel like that if it was a farang on farang they would mention that, so I assume he is Thai? Is the media afraid to say he is Thai? Or are we supposed to assume he is? There has been plenty of farang's up to no good lately (drugs, guns, sex crimes, ATM card fraud, bank robbery etc.) And I feel prejudiced when I assume it's one nationality over another.

EDIT: Confirmed the suspect is Thai.

Posted

And according the the article, he speaks at least a little English. For those that didn't/can't track down the story at the other Phuket news site, in one case a Thai man reportedly sneaked into/broke into a farang womans house and sexually assaulted her after she got out of the shower. In the Promthep jogger case, he 1st tried chatting up the girl in English while riding a motorbike before assaulting her. It is unclear if the suspect is the same person in each case.

This attack happened A WEEK ago and I heard about it from a female friend the next day.

I tried to find corroboration from the Gazette/Post/TV web sites, and found nothing. Why??

Like an earlier poster I decided not to put it on TV as I had no doubt I'd be attacked in the way the OP was originally attacked before the story came out, instead I too just warned friends.

I haven't seen the eventual 'news source', but was told the attack happened between 7 and 7.30 a.m - not later.

Obviously Thai and didn't have the mob to back them up.You know Thai's don't like one on one.
