I finally dumped Maxnet (Life, Premiere, whatever :) ) ... bad service, high contention ratios, too many outages after 4 years.

And, yes, I remember the sporadic 14.4 Kbps dial-up days with Loxinfo [since 2000] so I have seen the good and the bad over the years.

But what really got to me was that Maxnet quality significantly declined (!) over the last year ... and prices did not go down accordingly. Clearly a case of client oversubscribing and possibly too much URL filtering/screening, etc. But the technical reasons do matter if the customer experience is exasperating.

I ran CAT (sDSL) and Maxnet (ADSL) side-by-side for a while (same price tier) and the difference (ping/jitter/bw and uptime) was very clear.

Your milage may vary and sDSL service may not be available in your area. I live in Mae Rim.

Sdsl means synchronous or both up and down streams have the same bandwidth. Adsl is asychronous and the down stream is a lot higher rate than the upstream.

any day or month now we should see the cutover to the Asian American cable. Currently my Maxnet traffic is still going thru the mideast.

A few weeks ago about 2 am my Maxnet bandwidth started screaming at 3 mb. I did a geo traceroute and it was using the new Asian American cable. About 40 minutes later it went back to the old route. It was sweet while it lasted. I downloaded a couple of movies and TV shows just like I was in the US. Keeping my fingers crossed the new cable helps a lot.

Out in Hang Dong I think I only have the option of TT&T. As soon as another option appears I will be done with them as well.

Sawasdee Khrup, TV Friends,

For those reading this discussion who would like to know how your computer's internet connection connects via a series of servers (traceroute) to a point in the US :

http://whatismyipaddress.com/

This is a free on-line service (kid-sister safe site); it will show you your IP address, and you can run a TraceRoute, and see your connection's relay-points to the US (California).

If you know your IP address, this site will compare connecting to servers in Japan, US, Australia, and Netherlands :

http://just-traceroute.com/

There are many freeware downloads of TraceRoute and Ping software available at sites like CNet.com which, imho, are trustable in the sense they are pre-scanned for nasty-ware, and you can see how they are rated by users, how many times they have been downloaded, etc.

CNet's download page where you can search for utilities for Mac, PC, etc.

http://download.cnet.com/windows/3055-20_4-10661993.html

This search, for example, will show you TraceRoute utilties for the PC ordered by user ratings :

What package do you currently have w/Maxnet (I believe now named 3T). I went to the very large customer service center (presume this is where your calls to Maxnet are routed) behind Carefour to pay my bill and I said it was slow. I currently have Indy 3M and they said I need to upgrade to Premier. I'm currently paying 590 and this new one will cost 1050. I'm thinking about changing to it, however, if this new Asian/American cable you talk about makes my currently Indy package faster then I wont upgrade. Or will you have to have Premier to enjoy this new cable?

Thanks.

I have premier but I would not read anything into it. It looks like they were testing it or made a temporary mistake. Who knows how indy or premier or the other ISP's will be affected.

I don't think we will know much until they cut over. In theory Thailand will have about 3 times its current international bandwidth. That assumption I saw over in the internet forum.

Will be interesting but if it can be screwed up then count on Thailand to do it.

4 months ago I was using CAT 2GB download speed and paid 2,700 THB/month....never had any problems.

Then I had to switch to MaxNet 3GB download speed that only cost 1,100 THB/month due to the fact that I relocated my office.

Now I have huge problems!!

I have 6 domain names and websites hosted by the same US based web host.

Every single day the past 2 months I've had problems connecting and working on my websites.

Also I cannot send and receive emails.

Sometimes the connection to my websites are down several hours, sometimes only a few minutes. In a few occations it was down for 2 whole days!!

When they are down and I cannot reach them, I sometimes try to disconnect my internet and then re-connect again a few minutes later. Then things work again and I can connect to my sites. But only a few minutes and the connection is broken again.

But strange enough I can access all other sites on the net....only sites I cannot connect is my own!

I asked my web host, and was told they could access my sites from their part of the world, so I was told that it MUST be my ISP.

Then I called my ISP and they told me I might have a virus on my PC.

But that is bulls.... I have no virus, and also I have 4 PC and 2 laptops at my office and ALL of them have the same problem as my main PC.

NO ACCESS....NO EMAILS....

But of course TT&T says they will check it.....they've told me now for 2 months and it is still the same....and they never call back!

So do you guys think it is my ISP, my web host or maybe a virus or something else??

I've regularly scan for viruses and I also tried the VPN solution....but still the same!

I had Maxnet Premier until today. When I tried to http this afternoon came up with a TOT username error. I called the 1100 number and they helped me change the username and password. I think I have TOT diamond cyber(4 mb) or something now. I didn't initiate anything but seems they are taking over accounts. Nice bump up in performance. Now I am getting .7 to 1 mb download to the USA as tested by Speedtest.

They told me the international gateway is supposed to improve but geo traces are still not yet routing me over the new pacific fiber yet.
