Hello, my first Non-Imm-0 one year extension will expire on 10th Jan 2010. I need to go back to UK next week and will probably be returning just before the 10th Jan. What is the situation when it comes to renewing the extension? Do I need to prove income and have an interview again? (if so I'd better do this before I leave). Will I need an exit stamp from immigration or no need because the extension will expire anyway?

Advice most appreciated

You do not say what is the basis of your current extension of stay (Thai wife/Thai child/retirement/working etc) but you would normally apply for renewal of your extension of stay during the last 30 days of your permission to stay. However, most immigration offices will usually renew early if there is good reason (on holiday/out of country etc).

You will have to provide the same updated documents as before. Note that under rule change income now has to be your own income (if applicable). You will need income letter from own embassy if income is from abroad, or tax receipts if income is from within Thailand.

Suggest not leaving renewal to the very last minute in case immigration call for additional documents. You will need re-entry permit to keep your permission to stay alive irrespective of whether you renew now (in which case obtain re-entry permit after extension completed) or later (in which case obtain before you travel).

As said , ask and see if they will do it early. If not do when you return. Don't forget the Re Entry Permit before you leave. 1,000 Baht.

Yes you will need the same documentaion as last year.

I'm in a similar situation.... Non O about to expire third week of November, but leaving next week for a month. I tried going to Chiang Mai immigration second week of October and was still told "too early" though I did have my itinerary to show my travel plans. Very friendly service, as I've always experienced in CM. The agent did the income calculations and seemed to be making the proper notes on my paperwork, then told me just to get a re-entry permit and bring the same papers back when I return. My current entry is good until mid December, and the re-entry permit was synched to that. It all seemed routine, but any comments are welcomed.

Looks OK to me . Apply for your Extension of Stay when you get back.
