Friends of Simon Grant invited to join farewell ceremonies

PHUKET: Following the sudden death of Ao Por Marina manager Simon Grant last Thursday after a motorcycle accident in Phuket, funeral rites began today and will continue until Wednesday, when Simon’s body will be cremated in a Buddhist ceremony.

Mr Grant, a 45-year-old father of two, was a well known figure in the Phuket expat community. Those who knew Simon are invited to pay their respects over the next three days at Thareu Temple on Thepkrassattri Road, just south of Heroines’ Monument.

Mourners can join blessings and prayers conducted by Buddhist monks today and tomorrow from 9pm.

Following Wednesday’s cremation ceremony, a wake will be held at Ao Po Grand Marina. Simon’s ashes will then be scattered at sea in Phang Nga Bay on Thursday. Family and friends will leave the marina in boats at 11am. Other boats are welcome to join in the flotilla, say organizers.

Lunch will be served at the marina's Quarterdeck restaurant.

A Book of Memories of Simon is also being compiled by friends. People who knew Simon are invited to add their messages to the book and leave photos of him so the book can be passed on to Simon’s young children.

Those wishing to attend the wake are requested to confirm their attendance by tomorrow by emailing [email protected] or contacting Adam Frost by phone. Tel: 081-979 6636.

Those who can not attend the funeral ceremonies in person can also send messages of condolence and text and photos for the Book of Memories of Simon via the same email address.

Full details of the funeral arrangements, including a map and ceremony schedule, are available at aopograndmarina.com.
