i'm writting a book about buying land and building a house in Thailand and plan to use quotes from some of the posts on this forum in the book.

do i need to get the authors or thaivisa.com's permission or is the content automatically public domain since it's posted on a public forum?

thanks, steve

Steve, as a published writer, and occasional editor, I can tell you that what you plan on doing is illegal, and unprofessional.

Anything written by someone else is automaticly copyrighted unless otherwise stipulated. By posting in a public forum the author grants the right to display the material to the site owner, but not blanket rights for re-transmission.

No editor worth their salt will accept a story which was researched in this manner. By all means use the posts as a guide to getting hard facts from proven, tracable sources, but don't use a posting as "research". You don't know who the poster is, so how can you properly quote them?

If you wish to quote someone on this forum, contact them privately and arrange to interview them properly.

Agree with Vic, plus you will get more info.

Also, email admin(at)thaivisa.com and perhaps the owners of this fine site can help you out in other ways too.

Good luck

I would do my own research and use the quotes for ideas.

Especially with all the information about land & house ownerships. It is all the same. 30 year lease bla bla 30+30 years bla bla, can, can not, impossible, no problem.

I think what you really need is a translation of the thai law, and write it down as it is exactly. Then your book will be worth reading, i'll buy it.

i would love that. if you look through the past posts of people who seem to know what they are talking about, their opinion seems to change with time. even my own lawyer gives me inconsistent information.

i wonder where i could get such a translation?
