Alex, I think you might have missed this...

Which is it? 14 al Qaeda operatives or 14 senior al Qaeda leaders? If it's the latter, then they are not counting foot soldiers which would greatly increase the number. If it is the former, then the worst estimates are still only half of the 100:1 figures tossed about earlier.

How to distinguish the leaders from the operatives and foot soldiers and civilians when they are dead?

post-21826-1264599570_thumb.jpg

These are supposed Taliban fighters, are they members of Al Quiada and do they pose a risk to the American way of life?

Are they potential terrorist?

How to distinguish them?

Alex, how to distinguish them? You're the one who posted those two links with the info in question so you tell me how they did it.

You ask if are they a threat. First, they protect those who not only are a threat to "the American way of life" but in case you haven't been paying attention the last 8 years they are a threat not only to all Western countries' way of life but also in places like Indonesia (Bali) and India (Mumbai). Second, they blow up more Muslims and Afghans in general that the NATO forces ever have. So that makes them a threat to everyone. Why do you support them so much??

Why do you support them so much??

Why do you support them at all?

I don't support violent men.

No, but apparently others here such as Alex do. I don't know where he's from. For all I know he's in a cybercafe in Peshawar.

The US Government publicized this incident and caught and punished the perpetrators 40 years ago. What else do you want?

whom are you trying to bullshit Odysseus?

After thirteen days of deliberations (in 1971 three years after the "incident"), the longest in U. S. court-martial history, the jury returned its verdict: guilty of premeditated murder on all specifications. After hearing pleas on the issue of punishment, jury head Colonel Clifford Ford pronounced Calley's sentence: "To be confined at hard labor for the length of your natural life; to be dismissed from the service; to forfeit all pay and allowances."

Opinion polls showed that the public overwhelmingly disapproved of the verdict in the Calley case [OPINION POLLS]. President Nixon ordered Calley removed from the stockade (after spending a single weekend there) and placed under house arrest. He announced that he would review the whole decision. Nixon's action prompted Aubrey Daniel to write a long and angry letter in which he told the President that "the greatest tragedy of all will be if political expediency dictates the compromise of such a fundamental moral principle as the inherent unlawfulness of the murder of innocent persons" [AUBREY LETTER]. On November 9, 1974, the Secretary of the Army announced that William Calley would be paroled.

Just what am I supposedly bullshitting about? He was tried, convicted and served 3 1/2 years under house arrest on a military base.

Maybe you disagree with his sentence, but there were many reasons for it and a court of law made that decision based on evidence that you have never seen. Even Jimmy Carter expressed disagreement with a longer prison sentence.

Besides, if he had gone rogue, joined the Vietcong and killed Americans instead of Vietnamese, my guess is that the angry liberals would not be so outraged. :)

a court of law sentenced Calley to life long hard labour. Nixon's administration overruled that court of law. that's the reason why Calley "served" the terrible punishment of house arrest although being responsible for the murder of hundreds of civilians.

what ridiculous message are you trying to convey? and why are you trying? to ridicule yourself (as so often)?

The “ridiculous’ message is that Calley's ultimate fate was decided by the court system - not Richard Nixon - and that he was eventually granted parole. I don't necessarily agree with this decision, but I did not agree with the OJ verdict either. They don’t ask me. As you may know, the justice system - pretty much everywhere - sometimes works in mysterious ways.

By the way, I see that despite all your amazing credentials that you are always going on about, it looks like you are reduced to childish taunts once again. Didn’t your Oxford debating professor teach you anything at all? :)

So what is exactly the American way of life Koheesti?

Stretching up credit card limits, buying houses you can't afford, buying anything on credit without proof of income, being brainwashed by controlled media, getting prescription drugs like Prozac and others?

Invading/attacking countries that have not directly attacked you, (Take Panama for an example).

Your government have BS you on the financial crisis.

Government has lied about the real number of soldiers that died.

Government has lied about the real reason to go to war.

Why do you believe all this government crap?

Alex

:)

Germany never attacked the US either. Should we have avoided that little conflagration?

So my gov't lies about how many soldiers are being killed? Do you have a link or is this something you just made up?

I don't believe everything from my government - especially lately. But that doesn't mean the Taliban & al Qaeda and their left-wing enablers & apologists are telling the truth. One "lie" our government might be telling from your point of view is that the war isn't about oil. What if it was? Petroleum gives us a lot more than gas for the car. It is a strategic resource and I don't really have a problem going to war for it - as long as we get it for free afterward instead of paying $80/barrel. What lies do our enemies tell? For one, that all this killing of Muslims & everyone else on their part is to protest America's support of Israel? They don't give a shit about Palestinians. They are killing for other more nefarious reasons. That's why they're being wiped out by the cave full. I'll take our lies over theirs any day of the week.

Terrorist enablers can forgive any evil commited by enemies of the United States. All of their noble rules only apply to the "Great Satan" and it's allies. :)

Even if a growing consensus holds that a political solution is inevitable, the fighting is likely to intensify over the next year. But it will be, fundamentally, a contest over the terms under which the Taliban are to resume a role in governing Afghanistan, not over whether they will play any role at all.
General Stanley McChrystal, the U.S. commander on the ground, told the Financial Times in an interview published on Monday that "a political solution ... is the inevitable outcome" and "the right outcome" of the surge of 30,000 new U.S. troops into Afghanistan this year. "As a soldier," McChrystal said, "my personal feeling is that there's been enough fighting.

So after all the years...All the lives spent.....All the debt... The prize remains .......the same

Fighting for a Draw in Afghanistan

The Taliban has had to shut down its terrorist training camps, lost control of the population and has to share power in order to be in the government at all. They have had 1,000s of members killed including some important leaders. You don't think that is enough payback for 9/11?

Do we need to napalm the whole country to make our point? :)

I still think that it's been a terrorist and fundamentalist recruiting bonanza in other countries. I'm convinced the Bin Ladin and his Saudi puppet masters have achieved what they set out to, in fact, exceeded their wildest dreams.

:D Yes you confuse yourself with others as to want anyone wants & as to how to make a point or the length of it.

But then you know that.....maybe...maybe not...hard to tell with you.

Shut down terrorist training camps? You mean they had to move the jungle gym they always show on TV every time they show a terrorist training<sic> camp?

Lost control of the population that the article shows they will govern in the future?

1000's of member killed? You mean like the 1000's the US lost too?

Payback for 9/11? Puleeze..............

None has lost more than the US ultimately & in the end things there will be the same.

Hey since your so pro action though.....you should get your butt over there,,,Your never too old or out of shape & Im sure they could find a use for you. Or is it just others lives you feel free in spending?

I'm a little long in the tooth, but I don't think that they would want me back anyway. :)

And just how are you an expert on all things America (bad, that is.)?

How do you know the numbers of American soldiers killed?  And do you really think that this can get by the hordes of media paying attention to this?

So you know all Americans are buying on credit beyond their rmeans.  That all of us are brainwashed?  Just how do you know this?

That Panama gave no reason for the invasion?  Detaining soldiers, killing a Marine is not a reason?  Using government aircraft to smuggle drugs are not a reason?  Stealing an election?  Beating up the real winner?  Threatening the neutrality of the canal (and the US-Panama treaty gave specific rights to the US to do what it has to do to maintain the canal neutrality.)

You post so much anti-Americanisms that it is funny.  The thing is, you don't post it as opinion, but as fact.  In in that, you are way off base.  And that is my opinion.

NATO Contractor Is Sentenced to Death in Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan — An Australian security contractor working for an American company has been sentenced to death by an Afghan court for murdering a colleague and then trying to cover up the crime by staging a Taliban ambush.

It is the first time a foreigner working with the NATO coalition has been sentenced to death in Afghanistan.

The contractor, Robert Langdon, a 38-year-old who worked for a security company called Four Horsemen International, was convicted of murder last October and sentenced to death, but the authorities kept quiet about the case.

Wonder if this guy will go on the stats as an allied casualty?

I woud not be so nice about it, but ditto.

Posting "facts" from blogs and opinion columns is a common fault on both sides of the political spectrum here.

It's usually fairly easy to pick but it's the outrage and abuse that occurs when these "facts" are questioned that eventually wears me down.

Good observation. On one hand we hear "When will it be enough?! How much revenge do you need?!" then before you know it that morphs into "What?! Leaving so soon??". "Damned if you do, damned if you don't, so do what the hel_l you want" is what I always say.

Robert Langdon? That's the Da Vinci Code hero. What a shame.

I agree. People always like to claim that America is carrying Israel's water in the Middle East, but the evidence shows who are the greatest beneficiaries of American involvement there. I don't think it's by accident. Major arms buyers, major banking interests both in and outside of US.

Even when "facts" are facts, they often obscure what is true.

I guess zzzza is starting to rub off on me.

When you figure out how to travel back in time that comment will be useful - maybe.

Agreed would have been useful to learn from history....instead of repeating it.

Never the less since many have said it from day one there is no need to fire up the DeLorean Time machine....

It is valid enough against your implied argument that there are only two types & answers your question of what the he11 some of us wanted.

I wasn't implying anything about answers to questions. I never asked what "some of you" wanted. That's obvious enough. Instead of implying anything, I was saying pretty straight forward that at this present time the anti-American left often says both of those things. Just reading this thread is evidence enough.
