Actually it is dishonest posts like this one that opened up the discussion of Israel on this thread. General David Petraeus refuted this in an interview and said that left-wing bloggers had cheery-picked sentences from a report and taken them completely out of context.

With a nice, fresh mindset this morning, I have watched parts one and two of your debate.

My observation is Norman Finklestein shoots himself in the foot in the first two minutes of his talking points.

He claims under the provisions of the Two State Settlement that Israel must return all "occupied" territories and the Palestinians and all surrounding Arab countries must acknowledge Israel's right to exist. He further claims this is the founding basis for all talks between the two parties.

So far, to my recollection, only Jordan and Egypt have chosen to do so. When the other Arab states recognize Israel's right to exist, then discussions about returning the so called occupied territories can begin.

I await with bated breath the FINAL proof of your position.

Alex, have you seen "Green Zone" yet? I saw it tonight. I think you'll like it. I did, even if it is all just fantasy.

I watched it.  It was interesting to see the shots of the actual Green Zone.  Some were stock footage, but some must have been green screen made for the movie.  And some of the "feel" pretty much accurately portrayed reality.

Not too believable a plot, but that's Hollywood.  My biggest beef is that it was somewhat boring.  I thought the key Iraqi actor was pretty good, though (or at least the key actor playing an Iraqi--I don't know what his nationality really is.)
