How Do You Snap The Locals?

I couldn't vote as it is a combination of things. Never, ever money, that is for sure (I have seen what giving money did in Kenya, not pretty). I have taken photos surreptitiously, mostly because Asians have this annoying habit of posing as soon as a camera is near (you know, the "V" sign and the like). I have also just walked up and asked for permission and have never been refused. So I guess you could say that I play it by ear.

Most people are very happy when I show my camera. If they seem to not like it then I find someone else to take a photo of.

But the problem is that they are not natural when I take the shot. Smiles and show the V-sign!

I do like the 28-400 zoom on my camera and prefer to take candid shots when the subject is occupied or unaware. I will still shoot if they pose, but continue to shoot after since they are aware and relaxed but have done their pose bit. If they show disapproval or discomfort then i look elsewhere for a subject.
