Hi there, I am new to Thailand and I was hoping that someone could please explain to me how to go about recycling, particularly in Bangkok. I've been told that people seperate it once it hits the landfill, but not sure if that is true. I can't help but feel very uncompfortable placing my cans and plastic bottles into the garbage.

Thank you!! :)

Not sure about Bangkok. But where I live there are businesses that handle it. I take all my paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, metal to the shop and they weight it and give me some money. Prices goes up and down on the value of the material. But one month about 100 to 150 baht I average. You also see some poor folks in the cities collecting it from the bins to take to these shops.

Yeah, these people are everywhere in Bangkok. There's a particular spot on my road where I always see these guys going through the rubbish, So I always dump mine in that spot, safe in the knowledge that it'll be recycled. I do actually try to separate plastic from paper from glass, just to make it a little easier for them. I dump my food waste separately in the bins at my condo.

Thanks for your reply guys!! I haven't really seen anyone going through the bags near my area, but for now I guess I will just separate it all and keep putting it in my condo garbage. If anyone has any better ideas let me know!!!!

Thanks a bunch! :)

i just throw everything out, and the garbage collectors open the bags and sort out the recycleable for their own profit.
