Nobody (including myself) thought I'd ever do it but I did after 22yrs of smoking I just up and decided to stop on April 16 last year. Two weeks on patches and not a single puff since that day. :o

See? It can be done....

CONGRATULATIONS

(Did the same myself 10 years ago, last April 1st. Cold turkey.)

Proves again, if one sets their mind to it, one can accomplish almost anything.

Now tell us.........what are you going to buy, with all the money your going to save? :D

Congrats again.

Nice one seedy. I reckon it helps to tell people too, as it reminds oneself to be happy and proud of it, and to not regress and take that one puff that will inevitably bring back the old bad habit full force.

I'm going to take my last puff and quit on malcolm's date when he finally sets it.

Well done cdnvic. About 10 months myself, I don't remember the exact date. This time I was on patches for about 6 weeks, basically until I "couldn't be bothered" going back for another prescription. I also graduated slowly, down to the lightest strength of patch, and then started stretching them to 1.5 to 2 days each before quitting them too.

At the time I quit, a group of us at work were in the habit of meeting at the fire escape to smoke and chat. Afterwards I continued to go there (cup of tea in hand), reasoning that I had to learn to live with others smoking around me. I got the last laugh, as shortly afterwards the others were banned to a much less sociable location on a different floor.

This was my second serious attempt to give up. Previously I gave up for 6 months, also using patches (but without medical advice, not that I feel it's a great help, just read the instructions). That first time, I got together with a new gf who smoked, and drunkenly shared one... and that was it, instantly a smoker again.

I do occasionally get wistful when I smell the smoke, but nothing I can't live with. I won't make the mistake of "just the one puff" again...
