What Is A Patriot?

Featured Replies

That is interesting. I have been to Laos numerous times since they opened up in 1991, and I never got the idea that they even know the difference between Americans and any other Westerner.

Are you sure they weren't just taking another relaxing nap? :)

I just gave a link that shows the bit about CNN using old footage is bullsh*t invented by some student in Brasil who has since apologized. Maybe that's who you saw on TV apologizing?

So, are you going to go anywhere special for the next two weeks while you are in self-exile?

Typical pack dog mentality. I asked UG to use some honour here....obviously you have none.

Nonetheless....what is the substantiation of the Brazilian student story?....I note too that UG still hasn't replied although he is present in this thread.

Excuse me. You owe me an apology. I didn't google anything after you proposed to ban yourself for 2 weeks. I first posted that link more than 35 minutes BEFORE you made your proposal.

My post with the myth-busting link: Post #182 Today, 2010-01-25 14:23:48

Your post with the self-ban proposal: Post #187 Today, 2010-01-25 15:01:52

Offering to ban yourself if someone can provide proof - over 30 minutes after that proof had already been provided. That's like betting on the score of a game that is already over and you don't know the outcome but the other guy does.

The only question remaining now is, are you going to honour your own self-ban?

I owe you nothing but contempt. I was having a discourse with UG.

I respect that, but you really should honor your commitment. I also provided proof before you said anything about me having to accept your deal. :)

At least my sister did not make her story up.

:):D :D Weak..........

Ok well it is only fair then to accept the story of my 2nd cousin on my fathers side as fact eh?

Herr Naam's dogs also tell good stories

Wanna hear them? ...... Meun Gun

and much more credible ones than those of Odysseus' sister and the "palestinian store" :D

I accept your story of what your sister supposedly heard from Palestinian-Americans. And I accept the story of what my friends saw with their own eyes from Palestinians in Hebron. Maybe it illustrates that not all Palestinians are the same.

Maybe your friends were talking about some Palestinans that they knew well and were not very average, but there is video footage from newscasts of Palestinians all over the world partying like it was 1999! :)

Maybe the non-Muslims Palestinians had a different take on the towers collapsing than the Muslim Palestinians? But basically you're right, not everyone thinks the same.

No, you were commenting on my post and insulted me because you made a wager before reading the other posts. I understand you feel foolish but just like in politics - denial only makes it worse. Enjoy your holiday, I know I will.

Is that supposed to prove something? When were the videos of the Beatles on Ed Sullivan added?

Well one was supposed to be inflammatory news reporting & the other was suppose to be entertainment no?

Or are they the same for you?

All that aside I remember hearing about quite a few Texans cheering when the ATF got their butts kicked initially in a fair fight down in Waco. I guess most of the Texans felt that if some intruder comes round without knocking & climbing in windows armed they get what they deserve no matter what the letters on their jackets read.

Does that make the Texans evil? Or just a bit of cheer leading against what they perceive to be bullies getting some?

In the end it is all the same & will continue as such. Due to the actions of the US Military Industrial Complex in other countries targets continue to get painted back home. ( Not that one has been since 2001 ....must be thanks to those nice TSA boys)

You of all people should expect a little collateral damages right?

I would prefer it to end but, for that to happen invaders need to leave soil & policy which is not theirs alone.

If they... meaning the US .....want to take action they could just as easily set sanctions much in the same way they *could* have starved out the folks down in Waco. Instead their ego's were hurt over the exchange so they had to handle it the way they did.

Not to worry though I hear Janet Reno took full responsibility....... :)

How about you were right and I was wrong, instead of all of the justifications for terrorism? :)

ok sounds good as long as you know your the one justifying terrorism....you just call it by another name :D

Having spent 9/11 in Saudi Arabia perhaps I can shed a little light on the situation.

My office was in a smallish town on the Arabian Gulf. I was at my desk on 9/11 and received a call from my boss in Riyadh and he informed me the first tower had been struck. As I recall, I took his call around 1550 (SA time), which was some five minutes after the first plane struck. Saudi Arabia is GMT+3 and Palestine is GMT+2. The East Cost of the US that day was at GMT-4, which made a 6 hour differential with Palestine and 7 hours to Saudi Arabia.

I immediately closed my office and went to my quarters where I had television coverage from CNN/BBC/Al Jazeera/ABC and CBS. I arrived at my quarters by 1555 (SA time). As there was confused reporting from all the various network coverages, I advised my employees to stay within our secure compound until some determination could be made as to what was happening.

I was watching television at 1603 when the second plane hit, thus removing any doubt what was happening. We simply didn't know who was doing it at the time. I continued to watch television coverage and watched the first tower collapse at almost exactly 1700 Saudi time. I did not go out that evening so I cannot tell you if there were any celebrations when the towers fell.

I can verify that when the first tower collapsed, it was 1600 in Palestine and was most asssuredly daylight.

Now to add a little local event that happened to me two months later.

On 12 November 2001, I went to KFC in the same town in Saudi Arabia. I was waiting for my order, watching a large screen television inside KFC, when CNN announced the crash of American Airlines flight 587 around 1720 hours. When the announcement of the crash was made a group of perhaps six young men gave a cheer. Since I was the only Yank in the building, I simply got my food and left KFC. I did not feel particularly threatened but did feel my presence might prove to be incendiary, so I left.

These events transpired as I have described them. If you choose not to believe me that is up to you.

Do you have anything to support your claim?

Tell it to Bin Ladin! :)

Does your sisters buddies in the Pakistani store have his cell number? :D

No but when my sister was in a Texas store she saw a bunch of Texans cheering & doing a jig as they aired it on TV :):D

Seriously though if you google anything remotely close to what I said I'm sure you will find what you need.

Why do your readers have to support claims you make?

You made the claim. If you cannot support it you might consider withdrawing it.

OK, I actually googled it and couldn't find anything. Although I wouldn't be surprised if some serious anti-gov't militias someplace were cheering.

for me the Ok bombing, uni bomber and waco are examples of a family fight, which is much different than someone crossing boarders to kill.

They said to ask you for the most up to date number. :D

What would be the point? Your mind has long been made up.

Actually chuck it is pretty obvious you have opinions as I do & everyone else here.

Most of the dancing we do supports only our own current stance & beliefs based on either past history as we understand it or in what we saw at the time of the incidents discussed.......or for some blind faith in what others said & I do not count myself in that group.

It is best to decide/interpret for yourself how these events played out & how they will be remembered. I count these things that happened in the US & it definitely has an impact on what I believe goes on elsewhere. Watching how little events in (comparison only) perpetrated at home can be spun & controlled in the govt/media & then for the most part be swept under the rug does not bode well for what goes on overseas.

OK, I actually googled it and couldn't find anything. Although I wouldn't be surprised if some serious anti-gov't militias someplace were cheering.

Well you must have missed the article by Time magazine & others then.

But then again I sat & watched the whole thing played out live on TV at the time.

As for Militias?? Do you mean like the time they ( the 3 letter groups like ATF & FBI ) shot 13 year old Sammy Weaver in the back as he ran? The militia held up in that cabin on Ruby Ridge? Where Sammy's mom Vicki was shot by FBI sniper Lon Horiuchi? OF course the 3 letter groups admit no wrong but, did pay each of the daughters 1 million & I think the father 100k

Not much for a son/brother & mother/wife eh?

Is that the militias you had in mind? Or did you mean Waco specifically? Where are these militias the govt or you like to talk about?

The folks in Texas were not cheering due to agreement with what ever beliefs Koresh had. They were cheering at the fact that the govt got their butts kicked initially in an illegal action.

Shove that attitude, bud. I googled it and looked at the first three pages and found nothing like what you mentioned. You don't like it? Then provide a link. Sheesh. I was practically on your side by bringing up the militias then you start acting like an ass.

btw - Waco wasn't a militia. It was a cult.

:) time for a nap? Your getting cranky.

Thanks for the offer but I need you on my side like I need a hole in my head.

I have no side where you belong.

Funny if I google anything like why did the ATF raid waco I see things like a Time article on the first page.....Not that it is the big article or reason for you.

What waco/ davidians were ...cult...militia etc.....was never part of the topic. You seem to have missed the point.

It was you who brought the absurdity of anti govt militias into the discussion.

I will skip replying to you if it upsets you so......Read my previous post to Chuck.

We all have opinions, beliefs, upbringing, etc.. built on what we have seen/done in our lives. I assure you, yours & mine are quite different. While that is not a problem for me it seems to be a problem for you.

Relax....grab a Singha feel comfortable in your opinions/beliefs. It is not a problem for anyone.

I doubt the Right would drink Thai beer.

They usually only indulge in Thai women when they think no one's looking.

(When they're not lurking in bus station toilets. :) )

It would be interesting to learn what people consider being a patriot really does mean.

It is not about Harcourt-bashing and is not totally an American concept.

Leaving aside patriotism this thread is not showing the best side of americans at all

Extreme patriotism or jingoism has been around for centuries. I suspect the Romans may have invented it.

They weren't bad at a bit of propaganda either.

You seem to get a little confused between your own opinions and what the rest of the world thinks.

From where I am sitting, it is the terrorist appeasers who constantly lie in their posts and even when caught will not admit it. Several have volunteered to stay out of Out in the Box for several weeks if anyone could prove their posts incorrect, but when presented with evidence, they refused to honor their word - not a big surprise really! :)

Moi?

Sorry General, i knew you weren't talking to me. When I saw you posting I hoped you were going to point to your sex life as an example of normal sexual activity amongst devotees of right wing politics. :)
