If you get rid of the parking areas, you get rid of the local islanders/tourists. You're not suggesting, I hope, the use of public transport????????? :D

No, there is a few areas where you can park bike/car, use them instead of parking anywhere. Like it says no parking on one side of the road, but drinkers & shopkeepers must park outside their favourite pub , shop, can't just park down the road & walk back.

Most culprits, islanders & expats.

Most culprits, islanders & expats. Agree 100 percent.

Just because you park your bike outside your favourite bar why does this necessarily make you a culprit. I'm completely lost on this.

Secondly, if the village was make walking only it would cripple business there, all for the sake of a minority who take offence at any traffic along the strip.

If you read my post carmine, I never said no parking. The culprits as I called them , make it harder to travel through the village. Parking in a NO PARKING zone forces pedestrians to the middle of the road & makes it harder for traffic to get through.

It's not the end of the world. :)

I think most long term expats in FV resent paying car parking charges Rooo. :D

Of course if there was a free car park.....

Yes I know, a catch 22. But you have all these Bar, restaurant , hotel owners , that if they put their collective heads together, might just come up with a workable solution.

At the end of the day it is to their benefit.

Like look at happy elephant, free parking if you dine there. Why can't some of these establishments rent one of these empty lots and supply free parking for patrons. I suppose the next thing would be, too far to walk/ :)

Sorry I forgot to mention, some restaurants at the end of the village do just that , I just go there park the car have dinner then walk back to the bar area.

Quite right, Rooo! Sorry for this bit of discrimination... :D How about " Bars with ladies and what look like ladies"? :D

As i see it FV is a unique place(designated no girlie bars by the authorities)so its aim must be for couples and families, and it is great place with this difference. All that FV needs is more people, but that could be said of a lot of other places in thailand too.Getting rid of the big SUV'S along the stret would be a blessing, and after 6pm. would be a good idea, making it pedestrian friendly.Either way your not going to get FV fired up much after 11pm.Young couples will only stay so long in the bars/restuarants before wanting more action or bed,the same for families. Its a place where the money is made between 6pm and 11 pm.and i dont see it changing.

The only other thing i can think of is making it "gay" friendly and attracting entertainment that they would enjoy but in good taste like lady bot dancing/singing shows, but nothing too extreme that would deter the families that come to FV.it is unique and i hope it remains so,reminds me of Pi Pi village.

"Gay" friendly? What exactly does that mean? Is FV now "hetero friendly" in some special way? What kind of different "good taste" entertainment do they enjoy that non-gays don't? I'm sure there must be gays out there who appreciate areas without the blaring music, bar girls, nice restaurants & pubs, a variety of nationalities, and shopping.

Considered that there is usually exactly space for one car/2-3 bikes... :) !

One or 2 public parking area/s would be great, but then - property has become so valuable.

Well, "what's missing"? - the times not too long ago when it was a sleepy "fishermens village",long

before Billabong, Crows Nest, Mojito, Red House, loooooong before all of them!

There is also new road being built opposite boncafe that will make access to fishermans village easier. but no car parking from what i could see. and loads of cars parked on the roads near the main entrance.

Until access paths and a car park is built...with lighting etc...from the middle road...nothing will change re having a proper walking street here.

Meanwhile I'm looking for the place samuian's pic describes....
