Job In Bkk/wages

Featured Replies

Hi all, i m currently seeking for an employment in BKK. I m 23 yo. with a degree in Travel Management, about 4 years working experience of these 2 years in Produktmanagement and Sales. Native tongue German + English and a bit Thai. I worked already there in Koh Chang as Guest Relation Officer for about 6 months. My question is now if I generelly have chances to get a job in Bangkok with this experience in Hospitality or Travel Business as expat? I already checked some announcements and all companies requires to remark expected salary. So i would like to ask what is a proper salary in Bangkok (not considered taxes).I worked for 15.000 THB in KC but i think BKK is rather different by costs. So i think i get a suitable room, clean and central for 7000 - 8000 Baht (already checked) but what about additional costs such as dining, visa run, transportation via MRT etc..What would be approx the wage to have prossess a life where you dont have to count every coint, but also i dont need a luxury apartment or a own vehicle..By myself i thought about 20 - 30 K for wage. Would be cool if anyone can give me some tips especially about salaries and job opportunities in this sector in BKK. Thx Manuel

You worked for 15000 per month? Better man than me Gungadin. I personally could not (would not want to) survive in bkk for 30000. You are 23, you sure you want to do this? :)

native speakers do get 30k anywhere in thailand, so you should target at least that.

living in bangkok doesn't have to be much more than in kho chang - just stay close to your workplace. You might think about buying a motorbike - faster than by the public transport

I worked in Koh Chang and it was ok for a couple of months if you be money-censcious (I lived more or less like a Thai) and i hadnt paid taxes, but i guess BKK is different about costs.

As far as I understand to get a workpermit and visa renewal you will need at least an income of 50.000 THB according to Immigration regulations.

Not sure if there is an exception for tourist industry work.

However to answer your question : What would be approx the wage to have prossess a life where you dont have to count every coin , but also i dont need a luxury apartment or a own vehicle.

About 25000 THB should be enough.

If you did not pay any taxes do you mean you did not have a WP ?

It must be great to be young and fearless. If you have money for a return ticket and some extras for unforseen expenses (emergencies) then 25k Baht a month is good but you will be living a meagar life style. It depends on your lifestyle and living conditions. If willing to live like a local you should be fine.

You'll get by on fine on 30k in BKK. You can get yourself a nice furnished apartment for about 8k and have enough for beers at the weekend. I live just off the Bang Na trad road close to Seacon Square and there is plenty of accomodation in that area in your price range.

thank you all for your helpful answers.

I guess about the wage i can negotiate and start by 35.000 THB and dont go below 25 K.

Can't see how you're going to get a work permit in that kind of job, on that low a salary. So, aside from the illegality of your situation, you will have to factor in a yearly trip somewhere to try and get a non Imm B, and 90 day visa runs, or all the hassle of getting constant back to back tourist visas and explaining how you're supporting yourself.

What about health insurance? It isn't that cheap for decent cover, and you certainly don't want to be without it. What if you have a family emergency and need to get back to Germany?

I would think you are better off gaining experience in a country where you can earn a better salary, and aiming to come back in a few years when you could get a more senior role with a better package.

^what he actually earns and what is declared for the purposes of getting a work permit can be 2 completely different amounts.

Well, i already worked there with a quiete low-standard, earned approx 15 K and got the work permit. So i think the 50.000-Baht rule to get a workpermit isn`t right overall. I had no problem to get a work permit with an income of 15.000 THB and hadnt to pay taxes.About the life insurance for Thailand isnt expensive, its 1000 Baht and for emergency cases my parants could barrow me something.Yes its right the conditions in Thailand arent the best and its not compairing with Germany but in tourism domain its a great opportunity to work in Asia especially in Thailand.
