I saw an 11 year old boy drive a pick-up truck down the village main street, past the police station, yesterday afternoon.

The boy is big for his age and looks much older than 11, but still.....

Is the legal age for driving in Thailand 18 and is this rule enforced ?

Maybe anybody that passes the test is allowed to drive ?

I think you must be new to Thailand... Country where you can buy driving licence, people driving like monkeys, dont look left and right, I dont care age, I look myself to find place off road to move away from car overtaking on full line a hoping I will do this... Number one rule here is LOOK FOR OTHER MONKEYS! Many people do so if not results are bad...

Good luck to all!

Yes, thank you, but seriously.

At what age can you get a Thai driving licence ?

It is probably 18, but there might be legal (or semi-legal) ways around this rule.

For example, in my country, it is 18, but you can start practice as a student driver at 17.

By enrolling mum, dad and older siblings as driving teachers, you can start driving at 17, as long as one of these "teachers" are in the car.

Officially 15 for motorcycles less than 110cc, 18 for over 110cc and cars. Not always enforced, especially in the provences.

Really? From what I've seen, I thought it was 10 for motorcycles. It is also becoming apparent that speeding, driving without a helmet, and going the wrong way on the street is legal if you're a pre-teen boy. I think it's also law that you have to keep looking down and back at your tail pipe when speeding if your a child handling a motorcycle. (If anybody else has noticed this strange behavior of boys on motorcycles constantly turning to look at the bike's tail pipe when speeding along the road, perhaps they can explain why they do it. The first few times I saw it, I assumed that they were looking to see if the bike was blowing out any smoke, but that just doesn't make sense. Taking one's eyes off the road to do it is dangerous and unnecessary when they could simply put the bike in neutral when not in motion and rev it up to see if smoke is coming out.)

3rd party insurance will still be valid, just like in other countries with a compulsory 3rd party insurance.
