Hope I have found the proper place to put this post!

I am assuming that, if I marry my Thai girlfriend in a religious ceremony, the marriage is not "official" as far as the country of Thailand is concerned and is also not "official" for my home country (USA) for vacation Visa purposes (I live in BKK).

So, I would like information on "officially" marrying a Thai lady. That is, a marriage recognized in Thailand and at the US Embassy for Visa purposes (once again, I live in Thailand. But, I am a US citizen, and would like to take my Thai wife (not "official" at this point) on holiday to US for fun and to meet my family. But, I have no idea how to do this.

Must I go through a civil ceremony in addition to a religious ceremony (Muslim in this case) ? If not, how would I "register" a Muslim marriage.

Thanks for any help/info.

Go to the main page of Thaivisa.com, not this forum.

You should see a link to marriage instructions.

Briefly tho ...

After your religeous ceremony

1/Go to US Embassy and get a notarized statement that you are single and free to marry. $30

2/Take to translation service and have a Thai copy made. There are service shops along Wireless Rd where the Embassy is.

3/Take both copies (English and Thai) to Ministry of Foreign Affairs to have it authenticated.

4/Then take it all to a local Ampur and register the marriage.

Now you are legally married in LOS and it is recognized by the US as well.

As for taking her to US, that is a whole 'other subject. Tourist visa, Non Imm, Immigrant Visa ..Fiancee Visa(do not register), K1, K3. As I said, that is another thread.

I am in similar boat and will be going for a full Immigrant Visa for my wife. But we live here in Bkk so we are under no time pressure to get it all done.

If you are in BKK, you can just go to the Amphur office near the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Chang Wattana and register there. My wife and I did that, rather than make another trip back to her home province.

You can register your marriage at any District Office in Thailand. There is no need to return to local Amphur (except for the ID card change - but believe that can be done outside home province now; or soon will be. If you do in Bangkok the good luck place is Bang Ruk District near Patpong Road (and not just for foreigners).
