It appears that I will be moving, changing immigration offices from Prachuap to Khon Kaen. I have been doing "retirement" extensions for a number of years. I have 2 banks with adequate deposits, one in Bangsaphan, another in Chiang Rai. Neither bank will be convenient to KK for getting the "bank letter" for my next extension in mid June. I prefer moving the funds in my account in Bangsaphan as it will be the least convenient.

Logistics are part of the issue with my move. I won't be able to open an account in KK until mid April unless I make a special trip from Cha am. So my new account will not have 3 months of seasoning. Both existing accounts (CR & BS) are well-seasoned.

Will KK immigration accept the seasoning of the CR or BS account in lieu of the KK account seasoning? Or will I need to get a letter from the bank in CR?

Where the bank account is, is no problem, as long as it is in Thailand. Some banks will do a bank letter for you, even if your account is with a different branch of the bank. I would inquire at both banks if the branch in your new location can do the letter for you, while the account is still with the other branch.

That only works for me IF a bank in KK will do a letter for the bank in BS or CR .. and I won't be in KK to ask until late April. I would actually like to change banks to SCB .. so I doubt seriously if a BB where I have no account would be willing to write that letter.

I tried something a bit similar a few years ago .. asking a friend to pick up a letter for me from the CR branch. But they required me (depositor of record) to show up in person.

Part of the issue is that the letter needs to be current within 30 days .. or so I have heard. I can get a letter before I move, but ..

In another thread I'm getting mixed responses as to how current the bank letter needs to be relative to the application for extension .. yet another aspect I have to cope with on this move ..

.. and still wondering about my original question.

The bank letter shows the balance. Not the amount of time it has been there. The bank book shows that.

Maybe if you show the book from your current bank and the book from your KK bank. They will see the balance being transferred from one to the other and adding up to 3 months.

The SCB branch in Big C are very friendly and helpful.

Actually, I planned on changing to SCB. Their service attitude seems better than Bangkok Bank has been lately. Is that a full service branch, i.e., can an account be opened there?

Agree that SCB services are generally quite good.

But note that the SCB branch in Khon Kaen may not issue the balance statement letter if your account is in another province.

At least that was my experience a year ago while asking the Phuket SCB branch to issue the letter even though my account is with SCB/Bangkok.

Followup on this:

Decided to come early and, hopefully, avoid the drama. Went to old immigration office and picked up a copy of my last extension.

SCB branches at Big C and KK Uni both wanted a work permit or tabien bahn. Wouldn't speak directly to me, but to gf. "Hey dude, I'm standing here!"

Stopped at Kasikorn Bank between Tesco and town and all they wanted was to see a passport. Very friendly, customer service lady spoke excellent english and assured me that they do immigration letters on a regular basis. Spoke to me about all pertinent details .. fair amount of chit-chat with gf after the account was opened. Highly recommend that branch .. so far.
