it could be quite humerous.

i was talking to my wife about 'greatness', and what constitutes greatness, she said your not great at anything, but very good at lots of things, i took it as a compliment.

i would however prefer to be great, what at i hear you all ask, well my childhood dream was to play football and be great, the nearest i got was to spend 6 weeks with port vale, when the 'great ' sir stanley mathews was manager, years later i met him, and asked,' why he didnt sign me,' he couldnt remember, but he could remember why he didnt sign ray kennedy,[ who was also there at the same time as me] vale couldnt afford the 50 quid signing on fee!

now i would 'luv' to be a great musician.

sometimes i am a great dad. :)

For me part of the fun of living within the western community in Chiang Mai is that so many people are truly great in their various fields. Everyone seems to operate with just a first name and couples are known by just first names (i.e., "Jill of Jack and Jill") so it's very enlightening to google someone once I finally learn their last name.

We have composers, authors, sports heros, film producers, artists, etc, etc, etc, here. Some contribute regularly to this forum.

Never will forget the day Port Vale played Chelmsford city in an FA cup match, can't remember the year but must have been well over fifty years ago. Weren't playing for them then were you? :)

I considered myself to be 'great' when I had the UK's greatest bear raider on the stock market ask me for market timing! Only a few people may have witnessed it, but it makes me proud to this day!

I also drove a stock up about 40% to suspension in the space of a morning with nothing but market 'manipulation' (because of my understanding of how the electronic system worked) - rather like an etcha-sketch. Amazing that you can move tens of millions of pounds worth of company value with nothing more than a few thousand quid and flashing lights on a quote screen - and maybe a bit of bluffing.

Also enjoyed a fleeting moment of greatness being given a slap on the wrist in an email from a City of London institution for manipulating the stock price! haha.. they dont like mortals knowing how the casino operates!

Those were the days. To beat the big boys in the city from here in Northern Thailand...

Now i need a new goal to be great at..

If i could notch up 35+ years here in Chiang Mai I could consider myself one of the greatest expat/escape artists!

Being a great parent is probably the finest thing anyone can do in their life. Helping some stranger attain a goal they might not have attained without your help would be the second greatest thing.

I've known many brilliant people in whatever field they chose, but who were lousy parents. I would consider them to be failures in life.

"Good at many but master of none" is an expression my father used to say. It still stands true today.
