Two held for trafficking underage girl

BANGKOK: -- Two patrons of a karaoke bar in Phichit's Nong Bua district were arrested yesterday for human trafficking in prostitution and procuring people under 15 for molestation.

Commander of the human trafficking suppression division, Pol Col Suwitpol Imjairat, said the arrest of Apisak Boonsuk, 64, and Ratree Maneechote, 56, resulted from an earlier rescue of a 14-year-old Laotian girl from Ratree's karaoke bar, where the girl was forced without pay to drink and accompany customers. The girl was then sold to Apisak's karaoke bar for Bt5,000.

The two suspects denied any wrongdoing, while Ratree claimed the girl asked for the table-waiting job at her bar, before running away to work at Apisak's bar without her knowing.
