Just after 2.30 on Tuesday Morning and in response to many complaints from Tourists, Police Major Arun, the new Inspector-in-charge of the Pattaya Tourist Police Station, led officers and volunteers to a number of locations around Pattaya, including Walking Street, to round-up illegal street vendors, who are commonly seen offering flowers, photographs with endangered animals and other services to Tourists who are either walking in the street or sitting in Bars. A total of 14 Female Flower Sellers, 1 Street Beggar, 2 Vendors offering pictures with animals and 9 people offering massage and sex shows were detained. Police Major Arun commented that the Pattaya Mayor, Khun Itipon, had requested to the Tourist Police to control the illegal street vendors, and this request accompanied by the complaints from Tourists led to this initial operation which will be repeated on a regular basis.

hmm...

just please confirm they only swept the 100m immediately left from the police station to collect only 26 people!

Should be 5000 baht fine or immediate deportation - BUT - nobody will foot the bill for deportation and they cant afford a 5000 fine, so a repetitive 500 baht fine works just fine!! :)

If it was these people were rounded up because they were a nuisance to tourists then why were their no Indian tailors? :D

Becausae it did not suit the police. :)

Those 26 vendors were back on Walking Street Tuesday night...accompanied by at least 50 of their brethren tapping shoulders, sticking flowers in faces, and offering sex shows (wonder if police were able to determine location of those sex shows from the vendors, then follow up by busting such illegal activities?) And WHY was the round-up conducted at 2:30 in the morning? Why not 9 or 10 PM?

Hi,

... in response to many complaints from Tourists

What are these "complaints" ?

How/Where could I make one if I had something to report ?

These guys are a pain and they are everywhere.

Relaxing on the beach and they will bug you, sitting

at a bar they will start tapping your shoulders,

having a meal and they will still bug you and they

sell everything.

Yeah they are too much.
