Thai Newspapers 1960's

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I am wondering if there might have been a newspaper like the Bangkok Post that was active in the 1960's. In my research most of the sources are using western newspapers. So, I am looking for Thai news sources of American corporate development and American government investment in Thailand during the height of the Vietnam War. If you can't tell I am researching Amercian and Thai Cold War relations. I am not at a level of Thai that I could read it so I am looking for an english source. Thanks guys!

wouldnt this be better in the General Forum as a bigger hit source who may have your answer?? ..

but very quickly, the bangkok post was first produced in the 1940's

The Bangkok Post is a broadsheet, English-language daily newspaper published in Bangkok, Thailand. The first issue was sold on August 1, 1946. It had four pages and cost 1 baht.

The newspaper was founded by Alexander MacDonald, a former OSS officer, and his Thai associate Prasit Lulitanond. Thailand, at that time, was the only Southeast Asian country to have a Soviet Embassy, and the American embassy felt it needed an independent but pro-American paper to present its views. Thus, some sources claim the financing came directly from the State Department or possibly even the OSS itself.

No, too many muppets and would be derailed too easily. You, beautiful Boater you, just dropped interesting piece of the puzzle I am working on in my hands!! I was looking through sources that would help me better understand the economics of Thailand during the 1960's. I had come across information concerning OSS members staying on after WWII and getting involved in business ventures. The source also said that they continued to send information to the American intelligence community through out the Cold War. So, this info on the Bangkok Post is very interesting and helpful. I went to the Bangkok Post online but couldn't find an archive.

Thanks so much Boater!!!!

Cheers,

Nah, my undergrad. I am appling for grad school this year, as long as I don't mess anything else up, but this semester of German didn't start well and I am working like mad to Deutsch sprechen. Ich mochte gern Deutsch sprechen, aber Ich habe kein Zeit. Oh well, two kids and large research paper take up so much time. I am actually working on my German right now, have the text book out and everything........yeah, so don't ask why TV is open. :)
