Hi Guys!

I have few questions regarding my trip!

I'm supposed to land in Bkk on March 26 2010.

If the airport is closed due the situation with the Red shirts I would like to know what will happen!

First, I'll be flying from Taipei to Bkk with EVA Air.

So if BKK airport is closed, does airlines normally plan to land at the closest airport?

If there's no way to land in Thailand, can I buy tickets to land in Cambodia or Lao even if I don't have visas for these 2 countries and enter Thailand by car or buses?

I have a Canadian passport and my wife that will travel with Me have a Thai Passport.

I would like to have your opinions about this situation guys!

Thanks in advance!

if the airport is closed at the end of march, i think, your problems will be the smallest ones.

wait until your flightdate, then you will see.

Closure of an airport in one country does not mean that you can enter another country without a visa where a visa is normally required.

Last time Bangkok airport was closed, Utapao airport was opened after a few days as an alternatives. If this should happens again, flights would have to be rebooked for the new destination.

Jeez, because the yellow shirts managed to do that once with the nodding of the powers in place, the possibility of something similar is close to zero (no nodding of powers in place for sure), why any one can't sleep for that is beyond me.

Traveling to Swampy next Monday and not worried about the red shirts hostage-ing Bangkok.

Land crossing was the only way in/out last time. :)

Not correct. CNX was open last time. China Air had two flights a day from CNX to Taipei. China Air was flying from CNX to Amsterdam. Air Asia 2 flights a day to KL and Silk Air to Singapore. Oh yea Lao AIR to Vientiane Don't fret the small stuff your not coming tell the 26th, we should know before then.

That's strange because I flew from Chiang Mai to Birmingham (UK) via Changi. Must have been imagining it...

Just like some people thank there was only a land crossing last time. They must have been thanking of the land between Soi3 and Soi6 in Pattaya. :) All the tourist I saw in Chiang Mai that were trapped all had a beer in each hand. :D

Doctor Ricardo advises nervous tourists to keep on taking the stress-relief medication as prescribed above. :):D

No need to rebook, the flight will just be diverted to Utapao and all tickets to Bangkok will still be valid.

Hey Froggy,

You are travelling at the end of the month, i highly doubt this will still be going on by then. I would not worry at all.

Cheers,

Ps. Vivre le Quebec Libre (hehehe)

It is extremely unlikely that the airport is gonna be affected. The army and police aren't going to let the red-shirts anywhere near the airport. And besides none of the protests planned are anywhere near there..

No worries whatsoever.

Phuket was also open as normal too. :)

It's a childish nickname that I hate, but I seem to be the only one. I prefer to call it BKK or, if necessary, new airport to distinguish it from the old one

It isn't some automatic thing that they occupy the airport whenever they protest. If the PM had gone overseas, they may have tried it.

I seem to recall phuket/chiang mai/don muang/Swampy been taken over... anyways wouldnt do you much good if the airport you needed was closed. Sure can try another one, but you would need to go over land and I'm positive everyone else would be thinking the same thing. So once you get there and see no flights available then you are stuffed again.

Chiang Mai was never taken over. CNX was operating as normal. For that matter China Air moved its flight from BKK to CNX and Air Asia and Silk Air put on extra flights out of CNX.

Yes, all for the same reason. To keep out the PM(?) they were protesting against.

U-tapao (pattaya) was open last time for limited flights but I'm not sure if only outbound tho.
