I am looking for parts like

resistors, transistors, integrated circuits, LEDs, capacitors etc.

NOT looking for computer parts or computer components !!

should be a good sortiment. the should have resistors

with (i thing its) 1/8 Watt 1/2 Watt 1 Watt ...

different tollerances and E rows.

wired or SMD.

for example.

I would be very happy for any hints, if its not a Computer Mall

Thanks a lot. I will reserve a day and try this out. (Have a look at the locations)

If you have Thai name of this would be kind if you give.

(And easier to find for me)

Its some time ago i have had a solder iron in my hands. :)

On the ground floor of Zeer Rangsit is a major components outlet (NPE) large selection of passive, discrete and ICs. Seems to be mostly aimed at repair of consumer equipment. They also have decent test gear and hobby kits.

Their head office is in Banmoh.

There is an excellent little shop in Sri Racha Nakorn..........

I love the way everyone assumed you like in Bangkok.

Perhaps you do??

True, but NPE do mail order too, just got to fill the form in to set up an account :)

Form is in Thai, but Google translate is your friend :D

I want to say thank you for all the information.

Yesterday i visited Ban Mo, the area was crowded with red-shirts and

(strategic placed) military around so i have to take a motorcycle to get there.

It consists of hundreds of mostly small shops which sell electronic components.

I have not seen one single transistor or resistor to buy there (except those soldered on a board)

I found LED's, screws, cases (plastic and metal), thousands of speakers

of all sizes, cabels, connectors (mostly for audio) and so on.

My first impression is you will get everything there if you know at what shop !

For example i now know one shop with a small collection of

screws which may be of interest but dont know if i will find the way

back to that shop.

(I have been happy to find the way back to my motorcycle-taxi)

I will try the larger recommended shops later.

Maybe its a good idea to rent a cheap apartement

because of driving 1.5 hour for one or two

components is not good. (I am from Suphanburi)

Maybe the postal way is the better one.

(I am from old fashion style and like to have

things in my hand before ordering it)

By the way, where the devil is Sri Racha Nakorn ?

:)

NPE - 2 branches + the website

Most area's in Bangkok or any major city will have their own 'ban moh'

electronics source is also another good bet - website already posted

Also RS have a Thai branch and CPC/Farnell - BUT they are the most expensive option!

I go to NPE at Zeer Rangsit for practically all of my components. They are well-stocked, organized, and reasonably priced. I have built quite a few preamps from scratch using the perfboard and strip board they sell there. You'll also find SMPS modules, heat sinks, transformers (an entire aisle is dedicated to them), and plenty of kits to boot. Almost forgot to mention that they also have plastic and metal project enclosures in many shapes and sizes.

As far as computer malls like Pantip, Zeer, etc., if you look in the right places and bargain right, you can buy old broken PC power supplies for about 20 baht each. They are a great source of secondhand components. Some of them are quite simple to repair, so a modified PC PSU works great for a cheap lab power supply! For the ones you can't repair (or are not worth the time to repair), the steel cases can make good sturdy enclosures that can protect against EMI.

One or twice I bought old useless monitors just for the components.

One thing I can't seem to find is a source for some copper-clad PC board stock. If any of you know, please share!

We should start a hobby club or something! Cheers!

99% sure NPE in Zeer have it (don't make a special trip I may be mistaken) :)

From memory:-

From the front entrance walk past the aisle of kits (with the glass displays on your right), as soon as you can turn left (the end of the aisle has those stupid animal sound PCBs) there is a table in front of you with bags of ferric chloride on top, PCB material is underneath.

I've given up making my own boards since locating an outfit in China that do reasonably priced short runs from emailed Gerber files.

Gotta make a supply run anyway, so I'll definitely lurk more. Thank you for the guidance! Next step will be the search for small solar cells. :D

Strange I was just looking for some resistors, I couldn't find anything at Ban mo but on the 4th floor of Pantip I just bounced around to all the repair shops finding what i needed. They were surprised to say the least but were ready to part with items for a few baht which was nice since I didn't need many.
