Any one out there driven this route before?

I have checked out Google Map and 'Driving Directions' with out much luck.

Any advice on the route and tips for the drive would me much appreciated.

I've done that trip quite a few times. The route I found to be the quickest is Chiangmai-Lampang-Denchai-Uttaradit-Chatrakarn-Nakhon Thai-Dan Sai-Phu Rua-Loei.

The only tricky part is to turn left at the first set of lights you encounter after leaving Uttaradit behind.

Boksida's got it spot on. Check the route numbers before you go as there's plenty of scope for making wrong turns.

Boksida has it right.

I have done Chiang Mai - Loei and back about 30 times. The given road is the best and around 480 km. Don't drive over Phitsanulok as that will add about 100km.
