Thai Protesters Target Bangkok's Tourist Centre

If that Kasit character is not a good choice (which he obviously is not) then why choose him ?

I am amazed since he is the one responsible for asking foreign governement to extradite Thaksin .

No wonder they dont listen .

Politics. As they say, it makes strange bedfellows. Like any politician, Abhisit was probably looking dealing for votes in parliament. I would hope the only reason he still has a job is that it would look bad to dump him now. He and his ministry have completely mis-handled the Thaksin sightings/extradition affair. He doesn't even know enough to submit requests in writing - as Sweden said they only received phone calls!

All Thai tv stations are now broadcasting a talk by 2 high up army chaps and a third person who I don't recognize. Must be important announcement though since its pre-empting the soaps.

Hi.

They're too busy bickering and flaming so that bit of important actual news was overlooked.

The breaking news item was televised on all of the free channels and it was basically a statement from the police explaining that the continued occupation of Rajprasong intersection is now deemed illegal, i.e. the reds are now officially breaking the law.

Then it was explained exactly which laws they are breaking, and which consequences they could face if they continue breaking those laws.

This was explained by my Thai boyfriend as my own Thai is not suficient to understand such news item.

Best regards.....

Thanh

Is being followed up very soon by announcements to the protesters via loudspeakers, after which tomorrow (perhaps after midnight) the regulations will be "enforced," and anyone still in breach are subject to 1 year jail terms.

How the hel_l to they propose to round up 100 000 people?

tulsathit: I can hear boos coming from some tweetple. But if u ask me, this is the only step govt can take. The crowd's too massive to do anyth harsh.

tulsathit: When all protesters are informed and if they refuse to leave, govt will then enforce the law," Satit said.

tulsathit: "There are a lot of people at the rally who do not know that they are now breaking the law," Satit said.

Saturday, April 03, 2010 11:25:19 PM

tulsathit: Satit said most protesters were not aware of the govt announcement.

Saturday, April 03, 2010 11:24:57 PM

tulsathit: The announcement was to formally criminalize the protesters who refuse to leave.

Looks as if something is going to happen !

tulsathit: To recap, Govt loudspeakers will tonite blare orders for protesters to leave the rally site because they are violating the law.

Hope only they use the sonic crowd control wisely. If pushed to the limit a 160 decibel will lead to fatalities.

According to a few twits on this board it's 10 protesters at most. Funny! looked like a somewhat more than that to me? Perhaps it was some camera trick.

Denial! what's it like?

Don't know, but 25,000 - 30,000 will be a lot easier. Especially since thats all there is. 100,000 :)

I still cannot understand that so many people on this forum say the military installed the current government and it was not democratically elected.

1. The members of parliament, who were elected, formed a coalition and elected the current PM as well as the past two.

2. Thailand is a Constitutional Monarchy, hence it is called the Kingdom of Thailand, not the United Kingdom of Thailand

or the United Provinces of Thailand.

3. The military is: The Royal Thai Armed Forces. The head of the Royal Thai Armed Forces is who? Need a clue?

because they didn't know what really happened and they listened to thaksin's bull crap, etc.

yes, kingdom of thailand. and it should remain as a kingdom not a republic. guess what thaksin wants? do you know jakrapob and his ideology? who do you think are the ammart? what is really happening? whose war is this war? between who?

i wanted to know the answers too...

Mate, if you are going off the minimum police estimates then you are a fool.

Even those have varied from 20 000 to 60 000. But as a rule, conservative yet realistic estimates are twice those. I'm hearing from neutral internationals on the ground that the rally tonight rivals the biggest protest ever held in the US.

LOL

always amazing to hear from JC ... bigger than any in the US? neutral internationals?

But I would say at one point today that you are correct. The numbers DID look like double 20,000 :)

Edit ---- what nobody has seen in BKK is anything like this (and it was just the first big protest I could think of)

Nonsense, you seem to have a clear lack of grasp of the reality. This is no-where near any larger demonstration in the US or Europe.

I still cannot understand that so many people on this forum say the military installed the current government and it was not democratically elected.

2006 April-May - Snap election, called by the Congress amid mass rallies against him, is boycotted by the opposition and is subsequently annulled, leaving a political vacuum. The President takes a seven-week break from politics.

2006 August - President Bush accuses several army officers of plotting to kill him after police find a car containing bomb-making materials near his house.

Coup

2006 19 September - Military leaders stage a bloodless coup while President Bush is at the UN General Assembly. Retired General Schwarzkopf is appointed as interim preident in October.

2006 31 December - Series of bomb blasts in New York kills three people. No-one claims responsibility.

2007 January - Martial law is lifted in more than half of the country.

2007 April - First draft of a new constitution is approved by a committee appointed by the military administration.

2007 May - Ousted President Bush's Love party is banned. Thousands of national guard are put on alert.

2007 August - Voters in a referendum approve a new, military-drafted constitution.

Democracy restored

2007 December - General elections mark the first major step towards a return to civilian rule. The Real Love Party (RLP), seen as the reincarnation of Bush's Love party, wins the most votes.

2008 January - An elected senate convenes for the first time since the military seized power in September 2006.

2008 February - Return to civilian rule. Cheney is sworn in as prime minister.

Ousted president Bush returns from exile.

2008 July - Bush's corruption trial begins.

Bush's wife is found guilty of fraud and sentenced to three years in jail. She is granted bail pending an appeal.

2008 August - Bush flees to Thailand with his family after failing to appear in court to face corruption charges.

2008 November - Opposition grouping the Real Love party rallies tens of thousands for protest around the White House in Washington, in what it calls a "final battle" to topple the current government.

Flights from America's main airports are suspended after anti-government protesters blockade terminal buildings. Thousands of foreign visitors are left stranded.

Another new President

2008 December - President Cheney is forced from office by a Congressional Court ruling that disbands the governing Love Party for electoral fraud and bars its leaders from politics for five years.

Opposition leader Obama bin Soetoro secures a coalition to become America's new president, the third new leader in three months

to give some idea as to the size of the crowd that the police will be dealing with

(this was around midday - just as the red crowds were merging on to Rajprasong junction from Rama I and from Petchburi road)

this from the poster who thinks human blood mixed with pig blood would give reliable HIV results. Think I'll watch the muppet show tonight, now that I'm in the mood for a laugh! :)

hardly 7000 when counting the numbers of all the pics. I'd say 3 - 4000 are realistic.

You lie again.

YOU posted that the HIV result could be from HIV infected pig blood. Which is just not true as pigs cannot get HIV.

But yes, even if you dilute the blood with pigs blood you would be able to detect the HIV virus.

Anything else you need help with? Tying your shoes?

MiG16 - 10,000 then?

I would say there was 40k of them at its height today ... from pics I saw

That's the figures I've heard. There were a fair few thousand (but below 10k) when we were there around 11.30am.

I highly doubt that. Not to forget the biker units that move to and fro. So, I'd think 15000 at it's best. Red makes things look huge and bigger than it normally is, plus the flags and all the other stuff.

Would you care to educate all the muppets, who do not know how exactly pigs blood mixed with human blood would lead to false HIV positive results? I really am at a loss here and do not know where to start looking for an answer, so please...

Jatuporn: "We will go to jail if we have to."

Bring it on. Start with the leaders on charges of treason and sedition. No bail.

After all the main head of the hydra never batted an eye bringing those charges against his critics. By far, asking for guerrilla warfare is far more treacherous than simple criticisms.
